Linnaeus Senior Networking Engineer in Shirley, United Kingdom
An exciting new opportunity has arisen in the Linnaeus Group for an IT Infrastructure Engineer. Working for one of the UK’s leading and rapidly growing veterinary groups,
The individual will be a key member of the IT Infrastructure team and be integral to help mature the capability within the IT function as we transform from a £300m revenue “small business” to a £500m+ corporate organisation in which we deliver a best in class IT platforms.
The engineer will be expected to work closely with the Principal Infrastructure Engineer and other stake holders to test and implement technical solutions from a project / deployment aspect and also deal with IT escalations from other members of the IT team (from various departments) and to manage issues until completion.
The role is a mixture of BAU and project work which will occasionally involve working some evenings and weekends to minimise downtime with the practices (expenses and overtime will be paid) – We have a number of different site layouts due to acquisitions and the candidate has to occasionally expect the unexpected when undertaking project work and on occasions a 2hr project can turn into a longer piece of work.

Main purpose & goals
To be an escalation point for incidents / issues that less experienced engineers are unable to resolve or may need guidance with.
To plan and carry out maintenance and upgrades in the future proofing of the IT systems, providing advice and produce proposals as a contribution towards strategic business planning.
To be a critical person to assist in transforming the current varied IT estate to a standardised IT platform that is ‘best in class’ and allows Linnaeus to deliver its commitment to excellence.
To monitor and proactively make adjustments to ensure the availability and performance of infrastructure based services throughout all sites.
Deliver ‘best in class’ operational IT Infrastructure services, solutions and IT project delivery, underpinned by clear KPIs and metrics.
Strong operational IT Infrastructure related service delivery – adhering to ITIL ‘best practice’ processes.
Strong IT Infrastructure related project delivery – adhering to PRINCE2 (or equivalent) ‘best practice’ processes.
To provide clear and concise communication across all aspects of infrastructure services where required.
To provide support, coaching and develop members of the team to be the best they can be.
Experience
Extensive experience of operating in a corporate / mid-size enterprise level IT Networking Infrastructure role
Experience of consolidating a wide variety of technologies into a standardised offering.
Experience of developing and delivering IT solutions and projects.
Able to effectively prioritise workload when in high pressure situations working both remotely and on-sits
Strong interpersonal skills
A desire to obtain the knowledge of the business not just the technology.
A “Can do” / “glass half full” attitude.
Full driving license, Access to vehicle and business use included on policy.
