JOB SUMMARY The patient transport driver provides safe, courteous, and efficient transportation to medically stable behavioral health patients transferred from Sheridan Memorial Hospital (SMH) to another healthcare or mental health facility. This position helps ensure the safety of patients and other staff members during trips and ensures that the assigned vehicle is in safe operating condition.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Drives an organization-provided vehicle to transport patients safely to other healthcare or mental health facilities within Wyoming or surrounding states, as needed.

  • Assists patients in getting in and out the vehicle and safely inside their respective destination.

  • Ensures the safety of passengers with severe physical, mental, or developmental problems while in vehicle.

  • Assists other staff member(s) with patient de-escalation strategies as needed.

  • Maintains a professional image and attitude with patients, coworkers and facility staff members.

  • Reports any driving hazards, travel delays, accidents and/or passenger incidents to the supervisor.

  • Completes vehicle pre-trip and post-trip inspections, trip log, and maintains vehicle cleanliness.

  • Adheres to hospital policies and standard operating procedures.

  • Position Qualifications: Education/Experience/License

  • High School diploma or equivalent, required.

  • Valid state-issued, non-expired driver’s license with no major moving violations or “at fault” accidents within the past 3 years, required.

  • Minimum of 3 years of driving experience, required.

  • Current CPR/BLS certification or ability to participate in SMH-provided training upon hire, required.

  • Behavioral de-escalation training certification or ability to participate in SMH-provided training upon hire, required.

  • Additional Skills

  • Knowledge of safe driving practices.

  • Exercises good judgment and extreme caution while operating a vehicle.

  • Ability to read and interpret a map and operate/understand GPS devices for driving directions.

  • Remains calm and focused in escalated or emergency situations.

  • Understands and carries out oral and written instructions independently.

  • Exhibits a high degree of tolerance and patience.

  • Ability to adhere to HIPAA and patient confidentiality mandates.

  • Specific demands not listed: Possible exposure to blood and or body fluids / infectious disease / hazardous waste requiring the use of Personal Protective Equipment. Exposure to odorous chemicals / specimens and Latex products.
