Volunteers of America Director of Grants in Sheridan, Wyoming

Summary/Objective

The Director of Grants will work closely with the Vice President of Business Development on strategic planning initiatives and lead the grant writing team in the development of funding resources and writing proposals to a variety of organizations and agencies for Volunteers of America Northern Rockies. The Director of Grants will also manage an annual grant/contract schedule while working closely with program leaders and executive teams to prepare applications and proposals for new, and existing, program funding and government contract proposals to ensure timely and effective solicitations.

Essential Functions

  • Provide leadership for the grant writing team in overall grant management, including master grant/contract schedule.
  • Research, prepare, submit, and manage a consistent, year-round pipeline of letters of inquiry, proposals, presentations, briefings, and progress/impact reports to local, state, federal, individual, corporate, and foundation funding sources.
  • Write and edit clear, accurate, and persuasive funding requests, including letters of inquiry, concept papers, proposals, reports, and grant applications tailored to each funder's area, mission, specifications, and deadlines.
  • Work with executive, program, and financial leadership teams to identify funding needs, target related opportunities, and develop high-impact programmatic narratives.
  • Establish and follow timelines for internal routing, approvals, and submission to funding sources.
  • Maintain a schedule for reporting requirements and final close-out activities for all grants or contracts.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of applications, proposals, and funding requirements.
  • Conduct research, database searches, and use a wide variety of written, electronic, and public contact resources to access potential government, foundation and/or other private funding sources.
  • Work with the Outcomes program to produce grant progress reports and keep up with funder reporting requirements and action items.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has direct supervisory responsibilities and may serve as a coach and mentor for other positions in the organization.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers, photocopiers, and smartphones.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. This would require lifting files, opening filing cabinets, and bending or standing on a stool as necessary.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. The days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Travel

Some travel is expected for this position.

Required Education, Experience or Eligibility Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related area
  • Knowledge of standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the grant writing field.
  • Two years of supervisory experience
  • Ability to communicate complex issues clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to adapt writing style as appropriate to VOA's specific relationship with funders.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, as well as creativity, and resourcefulness.
  • Excellent research skills, preferably with experience in researching foundations and corporate donors using online databases and the Internet.
  • Proficiency in basic software applications is required, including spreadsheets, Google, Microsoft, etc.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Bachelors degree in a related area and at least three years of work experience in development and grant writing, prospect research, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two years supervisory experience
