Position Summary:

The Nursing Assistant contributes to the delivery of patient-centered care through: Performance of selected day-to-day patient care activities. Maintenance of an environment that is functionally and aesthetically conducive to patient well-being. Demonstrates unit/area-designated competencies. Interacts with patients considering their developmental, age-specific, and cultural spiritual preferences.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  1. Always introduce self and explains patient care role.

  2. Perform competency routine oxygen therapy, pulse oximetry.

  3. Receives report from appropriate RN. Performs specific patient care interventions as delegated by the RN in an effort to identify/attain treatment goals.

  4. Assists in establishing and maintains a patient care environment that is clean, safe, and conducive to patient/family well being.

  5. Prepare patient room for arrival, assists in transfers and or discharge of patients.

  6. Orients patient/family/visitors to patient room, unit, waiting area and facilities.

  7. Assists patient/family in the use of hospital equipment (telephone, lights, television).

  8. Makes occupied and unoccupied beds. Collects and disposes of soiled linen. Answers call lights and telephones. Exemplifies the highest levels of customer service standards when performing these tasks.

  9. Performs safety checks and observes hospital safety guidelines, documents as required.

  10. Follows and adheres to all policies and procedures including infection control (use of body substance isolation and use of personal protective equipment when in contact with body fluids).

  11. Assists patient with menu selection or assists patient care partner in doing so.

  12. Distributes nourishments and orders late trays.

  13. Assists patient and care partner with ADL’s and bathing, showering, toileting, positioning, turning, transferring, and ambulating.

  14. Records/calculates intake output observations, and care intervention in designated areas of the record or on appropriate forms.

  15. Performs all activities related to routine capillary blood glucose monitoring.

  16. Applies support/orthopedic devices such as TED hose and SCD’s.

  17. Other duties as assigned.

Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • Formal education or training in a medical careers program OR enrollment in nursing school OR two or more years’ experience in a Patient Care Associate/Nurse Assistant role

  • Experience working in Long Term Care, Memory or Alzheimers Care, or Geriatric Psych unit.

  • Formal education or training in a medical careers program or enrollment in nursing school

  • BLS card from AHA required before start date (valid at least 60 days beyond start date).

Preferred:

  • One year of prior work experience in patient-care environment

  • CNA Certification

  • Basic EMT Certification
