Job Overview

The Plant Manager position plays a key role on the Forest Machine Business Division (FMBD) leadership team. The Plant Manager's core responsibilities are but not limited to; planning, organizing, leading and controlling all manufacturing related activities for the TimberPro product lines. Responsible for the performance of the following departmental functions: Manufacturing, Materials Management, Quality Assurance, Production Planning, and supporting Manufacturing Engineering.

Key Job Responsibilities

• Reviews and approves adequate plans for approval to control planned output budget spending; labor efficiency; material efficiency; customer service; order efficiency; along with employee relations and utilization.

• Responsible for the implementation of Material Resource Planning (MRP) and coordinating with major suppliers to ensure accurate forecasting and supply for necessary components that will support production capacity expansion.

• Reviews performance against operating plans and standards. Provides reports to subordinates on interpretation of results and changes in direction of plans.

• Develops and present monthly reports on performance as requested by Executive mgmt.

• Development of local policies consistent with manufacturing, corporate guidelines and legislated mandates, including OSHA compliance and Komatsu safety requirements.

• Defines and recommends objectives in each area of operation. Develops specific short-term and long-term plans and programs, together with supporting budget requests and financial estimates.

• Reviews and approves cost control reports, cost estimates, manpower and facility requirements forecasts.

• Reviews and approves the development, setting and review of all TPI manufacturing budgets.

• Responsible for managing facility contracts, including material disposal, facility and plant maintenance, and uniforms.

• Reviews and endorses or revises budget proposals received from direct reports. Submits budgets for assigned activities in accordance with the budget procedure. Approves budget expenses up to authorized dollar amounts.

• Reviews and approves major projects involving major functional changes within TPI.

• Develops plans for new areas of technology for the manufacturing functions along with sufficient planning for areas that support the mission of the company within TPI.

• Consults with all segments of management responsible for policy or action. Ensures compliance within area of responsibility. Makes recommendations for improving effectiveness of policies and procedures.

• Establishes objectives and procedures governing the performance of assigned activities. Issues specific annual objectives to immediate subordinates and review objectives of TPI management.

• Selects and maintains qualified personnel in all positions reporting directly and recommend appropriate compensation. Provides orientation and OJT for direct reports and ensures that the authority and responsibility for each position are defined and understood.

• Directs monitors and appraises the performance of units immediately reporting and provides the necessary coordination between activities. Identifies training needs; initiates development of direct reports; recommends effective personnel action.

• Maintains appropriate communication with all levels of the organization including company/department plans and progress.

• Coordinates activities of assigned units with those of other company units. Seeks mutual agreement on problems involving coordination, including new product development, workman’s comp, and inventory control.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred or demonstrated experience in Leadership roles with the ability to present to Executives with business operation updates.

  • Seven to ten years of experience with working with complex assemblies preferably with heavy equipment or similar field. Experience in welding and machining, hydraulics preferred.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills as this position will be responsible for effectively interfacing with all levels of the organization which includes employees at the plant floor and across the organization including the Executives.

  • Must possess a strong background in Materials Management (Bill of Materials, Sourcing, Purchasing, Inventory, etc.).

  • Strong experience with process creation and standardization. Ability to have a Kaizen (continuous improvement) mindset to ensure TimberPro is operating as efficiently and effectively both with our products we manufacture but as well as a positive work environment for our employees.

  • Exposure to new product development processes is a plus.

  • Must be able to work in a fast paced challenging work environment and have the ability to be flexible, adaptable and patient as the business needs dictate.

  • Must be able to handle competing priorities and deadlines. This includes being empathetic to escalating situations that leads to a positive outcome for all (employees, vendors, customers, etc.)

  • Must have experience with understanding the importance of employee development and how this ties to talent attraction, engagement and retention of our employees.
