Ohio Farmers Insurance Company Controllership Intern in Seville, Ohio

Work hours and duration: 20 - 40 hours/week starting Jan 2025 - Apr/May 2025 The Controllership team provides value-added, business advisory services and insights to support the evolving needs of our customers and policyholders. Westfield Controllership offers a wide range of opportunities working closely with the team and its leaders. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: Assist on projects and with accounting close. Participate in the analysis and completion of various processes. Review existing standard operating procedures and update where gaps exist. Assisting with annual compliance and regulatory work, including preparing state filings. Assist with the preparation and filing of state and local tax returns for a multi-tiered organization, including property and casualty insurance and banking related companies. Engage in self-led continuous improvement project, empowering interns to drive innovation. Assists the business unit in completing the tasks assigned to them, which often includes, but is not limited to, project work and covering the day-to-day operations of the business unit. Participates in training programs, workshops, and on-the-job learning opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills related to the field or industry of the internship. Participates in summer internship program events, including Lunch and Learns. Completes assigned tasks and projects efficiently and effectively, following instructions and guidelines provided by supervisors or mentors. Conducts research, gathers data, and analyzes information relevant to the internship focus or assigned projects. Takes responsibility for administrative and support tasks of the department. Collaborates with colleagues, supervisors, and other stakeholders to effectively communicate progress, challenges, and ideas, and actively participates in team meetings or discussions. Works on projects that provide opportunity to collaborate with other interns as well as associates in other departments, ranging from data analysis to mentors. Identifies and resolves issues or challenges that arise during the internship, demonstrating problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to finding solutions. Demonstrates professionalism, punctuality, and a strong work ethic by being reliable, responsible, and maintaining a positive attitude towards assigned responsibilities. Develops business skills in communication and shadowing other professionals. Maintaining accurate records, documenting progress, and preparing reports or presentations as required by the internship program or supervisors. Attends business unit meetings as assigned and creates and delivers presentations. Seeks feedback from supervisors or mentors, actively seeking opportunities for improvement, and applying learning to enhance performance throughout the internship. High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) and/or commensurate experience. Actively pursuing or within 1 year of receiving a secondary education degree with a related field of study, i.e., Accounting, Finance or Business Administration.
