Jamestown Family Dental Clinic Dental Assistant I in Sequim, Washington
The Dental Assistant I plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the Jamestown Family Dental Clinic. This position provides essential chairside assistance to dental providers, maintains a sterile and organized clinical environment, and contributes to a positive patient experience. The Dental Assistant I works closely with the dental team to deliver high-quality care while adhering to strict infection control protocols and tribal health standards. This position reports to the Clinic Operations Manager/Dental Assistant Supervisor.
Responsibilities:
- Patient Care:
- Greet and seat patients, ensuring accurate and up-to-date demographic and medical history information.
- Prepare patients for dental examinations and procedures.
- Provide chairside assistance, including passing instruments and materials, and operating suction/retraction equipment.
- Provide oral hygiene instructions, routine prophylaxis, and topical fluoride treatments as directed by the dentist.
- Triage dental emergencies, report findings to the dentist, and schedule appointments as needed.
- Clinical Procedures:
- Apply coronal polish.
- Take study model impressions.
- Fabricate and cement temporary crowns.
- Place and remove rubber dams.
- Sterilization and Infection Control:
- Maintain dental operatories, labs, and sterilization areas in a clean, orderly, and sterile condition.
- Perform deep cleaning weekly and adhere to strict infection control practices at all times.
- Maintain, clean, package, sterilize, and store all dental equipment and instruments according to current infection control guidelines.
- Inventory Management:
- Assist with tracking inventory, purchasing supplies, and maintaining equipment.
- Compliance:
- Adhere to all JST and JFDC policies and procedures, including safety, PPE, and work practices as described in the JFHC Occupational Exposure Control Plan and HIPAA.
- Maintain and ensure patient confidentiality.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Current BLS Certification.
- Basic personal computer skills and the ability to learn dental office scheduling, electronic charting software (Eaglesoft), word processing, and other software programs.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, including effective verbal and written communication.
- Ability to travel locally and regionally as assigned.
- Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background investigation.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Dental assistant accreditation.
- Previous dental experience with a thorough understanding of the operations of a professional dental clinic.
- Experience with Eaglesoft dental software.
