Jamestown Sklallam Tribe Cultural Resources Specialist in Sequim, Washington

Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe (JST) seeks a dedicated and knowledgeable Cultural Resources Specialist to play a pivotal role in preserving and promoting the Tribe's rich cultural heritage. This position will work closely with the Tribal Historic Preservation Officer (THPO) to coordinate cultural revitalization efforts, manage archaeological resources, and serve as a liaison with external organizations.

Essential Functions:

  • THPO Assistance:

  • Assist the THPO in maintaining regulatory compliance and consultation.

  • Assist in maintaining the JST Cultural Resources inventory.

  • Assist in protecting sacred sites for ceremonial and spiritual practice.

  • Assist in public outreach and education programs.

  • Assist in repatriation and burial coordination.

  • Cultural Resources Management:

  • Take a lead role in planning and completing cultural resources projects.

  • Coordinate with contracted firms for large-scale field investigations.

  • Conduct archaeological monitoring and site visits.

  • Collections Management:

  • Assist in managing Tribal archaeological, archival, and digital collections.

  • Coordinate the accession of collections and oral histories.

  • Assist in museum exhibit design and fabrication.

  • Assist with grant writing and reporting.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field.

  • One year of experience working with field crews and conducting research.

  • Familiarity with regulations and standards related to historic preservation.

  • Knowledge and understanding of Jamestown S’Klallam Tribal culture and history.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Proficiency in field/GIS tools and techniques.

  • Experience with inventory, monitoring, and writing research reports.

  • Familiarity with museum curation and conservation practices.

  • Ability to travel locally and regionally.

  • Valid Washington State Driver's License.

  • Must pass a criminal background investigation.
