Red Hat Principal Software Engineer - Telco 5G in Seoul, South Korea

Job summary

Red Hat Engineering is looking for a Principal Solution Engineer to develop platform reference architectures based on Telco 5G product offerings (https://www.redhat.com/en/solutions/telecommunications) . You will be leading a team responsible for designing and implementing the container platform for RAN use cases for 5G telecommunication companies, contributing to industry-leading technologies in the Kubernetes ecosystem.

You will be our team representative embedded with a leading Telco partner on site in the Seoul area.

As a part of a geographically distributed team, you will collaborate with multiple Red Hat engineering and Product Management teams and open source communities around the globe. To be successful in this role, you will need to have motivation, curiosity, passion for problem solving, experience with Telco technologies, Linux, Kubernetes, and open source.

What you will do

  • Collaborate with Telco partners to create, review, and validate designs and enhancement proposals

  • Play an active role in researching and then integrating various OpenShift and Telco specific features into a unified solution, proactively test the involved technologies, experiment and provide proof-of-concept demonstrations

  • Advocate for feature development and support needed for strategic partners’ next generation offerings

  • Collaborate with Telco partners to accelerate containerization of their offerings and integration with the Red Hat OpenShift platform to ensure outstanding functionality, performance, and reliability for introduction into Tier-1 5G networks worldwide

  • Play an active role with Telco partners to advocate for certification and continuous integration (CI) processes

  • Promote the Red Hat Telco stack, as for example universal base images (UBI), Red Hat Enterprise Data Plane Development Kit (RHEL DPDK) and OpenShift Operator Framework

  • Work closely with project managers, product managers, and engineering teams to produce predictable schedules for the partners critical deliverables

  • Contribute to the success of the team by sharing your work and expertise with the team, mentor and educate junior-level team members

  • Publicize the team's work through blogs, web postings, and conference presentations

  • Troubleshoot, analyze bugs, determine root causes, and provide resolutions

  • Work with the Quality Engineering (QE) team to ensure effective test coverage

  • Determines hardware compatibility and/or influences hardware design

What you will bring

  • Hands on Kubernetes and/or OpenShift technologies experience - 5+ years

  • Partner/customer managing demonstrable skills and experience

  • Hands on skills on developing reference architectures and validated configurations from conceptions to implementation.

  • Strong experience with networking technology (server, switch or appliance configuration), key networking protocols, tunneling technologies, switching, and routing

  • Proficient in Linux operation and administration

  • Ability to quickly learn new technologies and share knowledge with team members, partners and other peers

  • Comfortable providing support and knowledge transfer for partners as they onboard Red Hat and open source new technologies that you are familiar with

  • Working knowledge of CI and both agile and waterfall methodologies

  • Telco specific knowledge and experience

  • High Availability

  • Performance characterization and optimization

  • NFV architecture

  • Edge designs

  • O-RAN architecture

  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English and and in Korean

The following are considered a plus:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent working experience

  • Strong experience with automation tools and/or scripting languages (Ansible, bash, python)

  • Hands on experience with Red Hat OpenShift, Open vSwitch (OVS), and Open Virtual Network (OVN)

  • CKA and CKAD certifications

  • Experience with container related technologies (docker / podman, cri-o, etcd)

  • RHCE or equivalent RHEL knowledge
