BorgWarner Inc. Maintenance Technician - Reliability in Seneca, South Carolina

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. This position currently reports to the Sr. Reliability Engineer.

Under general supervision, this role performs advanced and expert level data analysis in support of troubleshooting, diagnoses, repair, maintenance and reconditioning, in accordance with ANSI and ISO standards, as well as manufacturer's specifications of manufacturing machinery, mechanical equipment, and production machines. This involves using precision-measuring devices and testing instruments. This individual works independently, providing assistance and leadership to the team members.

Standard Duties:

  • Performs self-directed planned, scheduled and reactive maintenance, which includes but is not limited to: observing machinery in operation to locate and identify root causes of machine problems; utilizing NDT analysis to identify defective components; examines component elements to detect imperfections and identify contributing causes; adjusting of functional parts of machinery and control instruments; repair and/or replacement of defective parts; testing of machinery to observe performance; and performs tests to determine serviceability. Updates related databases, identifies supplies and repair items to support NDT efforts.

  • Acts as a proactive project leader and works closely with planner/scheduler. Analyzes and recommends engineered solutions to identified failures. Utilizing thermographic and ultrasonic analysis troubleshoots electrical panels and/or other machinery to leverage opportunities at the incipient stages of failure. Supports Preventive Maintenance Optimization.

  • Maintains the continuous development of peer competencies in the various disciplines of Non-Destructive Testing, Analysis, Trouble Shooting, Root Cause Identification and development of corrective actions.

  • Provides leadership and assistance to all technicians.

  • Participates in Continuous Improvement Initiative; continually improves processes; quantitatively monitors processes. Completes required quality core classes and uses skills and techniques presented. Follows the Rules of Conduct in the work environment. Adheres to company safety procedures.

  • Must be a team player, organized, self-motivated and able to prioritize.

  • Ability to: analyze and solve problems; use advanced diagnostic tools to troubleshoot and/or repair electrical or mechanical failures; read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; write routine reports and correspondence; speak effectively before groups of technical employees and/or operations staff; add, subtract, multiply, and divide; perform basic algebraic functions in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; compute ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs; solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; interpret a variety of instructions furnished in PC, written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Safety, Health and Physical Requirements:

  • Regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.

  • Occasionally required to sit.

  • Occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds.

  • Occasional climbing of steps.

  • All employees are responsible for knowing, understanding and complying with the safety policies and procedures.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and color vision.

  • Occasional exposure to outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock.

  • Work environment has a moderate noise level

  • Shop work environment: hazardous materials; greasy, slippery factory floors.

Education:

  • High School diploma/GED or basic skills assessment required.

  • Associates degree from a 2-year college or 5 years related experience and/or training in a machine shop field preferred.

Experience:

  • Level I Vibration Analysis Certification to ANSI or ISO standards, two years’ experience utilizing Thermographic and Ultrasonic monitoring and analysis equipment, Certified Level I or II, is preferred.

  • Machinery Lubrication Analyst I or II.

Computer Skills:

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have basic computer knowledge of MS Office and Outlook.
