UPMC Patient Care Technician in Seneca, Pennsylvania
Join our fast-paced cardiac and stroke unit @ UPMC Northwest hospital in Seneca, PA , where you will provide essential patient care and assist with a variety of clinical procedures, ensuring optimal outcomes for our patients. As a Patient Care Technician, you'll work alongside a dynamic healthcare team, supporting patient activities of daily living (ADLs) and performing key medical tasks under the guidance of registered nurses and physicians.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist with patient procedures, ADLs (bathing, feeding, transporting, toileting, ambulating, turning/repositioning), and physical, respiratory, and cardiopulmonary therapies.
Perform core nursing assistant duties including vital signs, blood glucose, point-of-care testing, telemetry, specimen collections, Foley catheter care, and more.
Demonstrate advanced skills as needed, such as phlebotomy, 12-lead EKG, simple dressing changes, IV catheter removal, and basic arrhythmia monitoring.
Report equipment malfunctions and ensure effective communication across departments.
Provide feedback to RNs, report changes in patient status, and assist with patient education under RN supervision.
Adhere to safety and quality protocols, including standard precautions and department-based quality initiatives.
Participate in self-assessment and continuous learning to improve skills and performance

High school diploma or equivalent required
Prior ADL experience (bathing, feeding, transporting, toileting, ambulating, turning/repositioning) strongly preferred
1 year of general healthcare experience, OR 6 months as a UPMC Nursing Assistant/CNA with PCT competency achieved within 120 days of hire/transfer/promotion, OR Enrollment in PT/OT/PA or related healthcare program with completion of one clinical rotation, OR Bachelor’s degree in a health sciences field.
Successful completion of UPMC patient care technician class upon hire.
Microcomputer experience preferred.
Strong communication skills (oral and written).
Access to medications limited to distribution to nurse.
Licensure & Certifications:
CPR (AHA standards) required within 30 days of hire (includes didactic and skills component).
ACLS preferred.
Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) required.
