About the Opportunity:

The BEP Joint Venture project will safely design and deliver a Plant and the works in accordance with the requirements of the contract to enable conditioning of wastes from the various donor plants, carried out in line with the Employer’s needs and to the satisfaction of stakeholders in the Box Encapsulation Project (BEP).

The Deputy Construction Manager is accountable to the Joint Venture Construction Manager for the execution of the construction activities on the project. This role is site based but will require occasional travel to offices and premises in other locations at times. The peak construction workforce is estimated at circa 350 operatives, made up of JV partner and specialist sub-contractor resource, alongside a construction team of up to 50 personnel.

The Deputy Construction Manager leads the ‘Zero Harm’ culture throughout the whole construction life cycle of the BEP Project alongside the BEP JV HSE Team and are accountable for the following:

• Accountable for the coordination of all construction activities.

• Ensure the right people, with right skills at the right time to optimise overall project performance

considering both technical and behavioural competence to meet the needs of the programme

• Assign roles and responsibilities for all Construction direct reports aligned to the wider project organisation

• Lead, manage and motivate the Project Construction Team through implementation of best practice and

ensure a ‘zero defect ethos’ is installed in the project delivery team

• Ensure delivery teams comply with all construction quality management processes and procedures.

• Understand requirements of Site Licence Conditions

• Deliver the construction works to the budget set by delivery management, in accordance with the

programme to meet performance outputs

• Ensure all site activities are undertaken safely and responsibly, and in accordance with the CDM

Regulations meeting all internal targets towards ‘Zero Harm’

• Review of engineering design documents, method statements and procedures for HAZCONS and

Constructability

• Review and input to the general site safety ethos in line with the BEP vision and charter including SIP

• Review and input to construction contractual arrangements, stipulating the minimum standard that the

construction operations must meet to be allowed to work on site

• Manage the interfaces between the BEP DT construction operations and the Sellafield construction

department

• Deputies for the Construction Manager at the BEP JV Management

  • Growth centric mindset with a focus on teamwork and relationships.

  • Several years experience in leading multidiciplinary teams and a track-record for delivering great outcomes on projects.

  • Experience leading teams with diverse national and cultural backgrounds.

  • Experience with projects subject to high degrees of regulation desirable.

  • Educated to HND level of equivalent.

  • Ability to operate Navisworks to review model and usual Microsoft office packages
