PeaceHealth is seeking a Surgical Technologist Service Line Coordinator for a Full Time, 1.00 FTE, Day position.

The salary range for this job opening at PeaceHealth is $33.23 – $49.85. The hiring rate is dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to education, training, work experience, terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement, seniority, etc.

Job Summary

The Surgical Technologist Service Line Coordinator requires advanced knowledge of surgical instruments and supplies, their uses, and appropriate substitutions. This is a skilled liaison position requiring additional knowledge, critical thinking, judgment, and communication skills to provide improved services to our surgeons and patients. The Surgical Technologist Service Line Coordinator facilitates the flow of surgical case by proactively collaborating with the OR staff, vendors, and SPD staff, thus improving the relationship between Sterile Processing and the OR, increasing customer satisfaction, and reducing patient delays or cancellations. They support activities including, but not limited to, reviewing scheduled service line procedures, purchasing of new and replacement equipment and instrumentation, providing/arranging training and continuing education, assuring best practice and quality outcomes.

Essential Functions

  • Evaluates surgery schedule by working independently to review/update individual preference cards, assess instruments and supplies needs for cases and as needed, address concerns with department leadership.

  • Serves as the surgical technologist expert of that service line and acts as the liaison between the OR teams, surgeons, sterile processing, and perioperative services leadership.

  • Assists with maintaining and updating OR/Hospital protocols related to the service line.

  • Responsible for researching and remaining current on best practices. Uses this knowledge to provide highly reliable, evidence-based support to the provision of care.

  • Assesses the educational needs of caregivers related to their service line and partners with the perioperative educator to develop/provide education based on their findings.

  • Participates in data collection and management of quality metrics.

  • Participates as a member of pertinent service line committees, attending meetings regularly.

  • Participates in surgical procedures and remains proficient in cases outside of their designated service line.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

  • Accredited Program Required : Surgical Technology. or recognized course of training as a Surgical Technologist and

  • Preferred: Bachelor's Degree

Experience

  • Required: Minimum of 3 years of experience as a surgical technologist in a full- service operating room

  • Required: Service line specific surgery experience within the past 2 years

  • Required: Demonstrated knowledge of an ability to apply age specific principles of growth and development and life stages to meet each patient’s needs

Credentials

  • Required : Licensed Practical Nurse - Washington (Washington Requirement) or Surgical Technician - Washington (Washington Requirement) and Certified Surgical Technologist

  • Required Upon Hire: Basic Life Support

  • Basic computer/keyboarding skills including Microsoft Office applications. (Required)

  • Strong problem solving, decision making and time management skills. (Required)

Department / Location Specific Notes

UGMC Specific:

  • Serves as expert of all service lines provided at UGMC.

  • Perform all the duties of Surgery Implant Coordinator.

  • Registered Surgical Technologist or LPN license required in Washington.

Working Conditions

Lifting

  • Patient handling no greater than 35 lbs. without the use of assistive equipment and/or devices (NIOSH).

  • Fine motor skills to be able to grasp and control medical equipment and perform precise procedures.

  • Ability to move around area with occasional sitting.

  • Frequent reaching/ bending/ squatting/ kneeling/ grasping.

  • Lift/Carry: Frequently up to 15 lbs. Occasionally up to 20 lbs.

  • Push/Pull: Frequently up to 20 lbs. force. Occasional up to 30 lbs. force.

Environmental Conditions

  • Exposure to biohazard, body fluids and airborne particles.

  • Exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals.

  • Time spent on site in medical/hospital setting.

Mental/Visual

  • Vision and hearing required within normal limits (glasses, contacts, hearing aids permitted).

  • Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
