Responsibilities:

  • Grant Development and Project Management including Research, Analysis, Preparation, Soliciting External Organizations for Funding and Project Support, and Implementation.  Provide professional-level project management for grant acquisitions in designated recreation landscapes, which includes researching, identifying, and analyzing environmental impacts and the necessary and required mitigations for successful outcomes.  Planning for and analyzing budget requirements, coordinating volunteer matches, and developing tracking mechanisms for grant funds are required. Developing grant proposals, including determining the funding needs, and preparing and presenting such proposals to external (non-DNR) groups and organizations for funding and other forms of support for the grants.
  • Recreation Planning. Provide professional-level recreation planning for designated and non-designated (dispersed) landscapes in assigned geographic areas, which includes identifying and analyzing public use patterns and issues and recommending solutions to meet district/region and user needs based on current and future recreation forecasts.  Planning for and analyzing budget allocations and planned revenue-generating management activities is required.
  • Supervise, evaluate, and mentor the district's recreation staff. Staff may include recreation stewards, technicians, and education wardens. Coordinate, prioritize, and assign work projects within biennial budget parameters throughout the district. Oversee WCC or other contracted resources as necessary to complete projects. Maintain a safe working environment for employees and self. Enforce agency safety guidelines as well as L&I and OSHA rules related to employee activities in the workplace.

*Required Qualifications: *

  • At least two years of experience working collaboratively with volunteers, user groups, and the general public on natural resources-related recreation.
  • At least two years of experience working with forest-based land-use policy and recreation-use policy and practices such as SEPA, Forest Practice Rules, HCP, PSF, etc.
  • Working knowledge of forest management activities and State trust land responsibilities.
  • Ability to write planning documents, prepare cost estimates, supervise and coordinate design work, and negotiate with public officials and diverse agency staff.
  • Experience in public outreach and education.
  • Working knowledge of GPS and basic GIS principles.
  • Working knowledge of preparation of reports, memos, forms records, and field notes.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work alone and independently in remote locations.
