STATE FAIR COMMUNITY COLLEGE Supervising Dentist in SEDALIA, Missouri

SFCC provides a high-quality, geographically, financially and emotionally accessible education to more than 5,000 students who range from traditional college-age students to adult learners.

The college offers associate of arts, associate of fine arts, associate of science and associate of applied science degrees, professional and skills certificates, and noncredit courses and programs, and workforce development training in a 14-county area in central Missouri with locations in Sedalia, Boonville, Clinton, Eldon, Lake of the Ozarks, Warsaw, at Whiteman Air Force Base, and online.

Position Purpose:The Part-Time Supervising Dentist shall have the primary responsibility of collaborating with clinical instructors regarding teaching and supervising dental hygiene students in clinical enrichment experiences. As such, will uphold and follow all policies and regulations of the college.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Uphold and help maintain CODA accreditation standards.
  • Uphold and help maintain college and program policies and procedures.
  • Stay current in knowledge of the specific subjects he or she is teaching.
  • Participate in meetings, calibrations sessions, and training/professional development for faculty.
  • Conduct a clinical exam on patients, order appropriate radiographs, make referrals for care needed beyond the scope of SFCC, and prepare prescriptions if needed.
  • Serve as a liaison to the dental community.
  • Collaborate with Director and staff regarding student evaluation, review radiographs, and make dental hygiene care suggestions.
  • Assist with and participate in graduation/pinning activities.
  • Assist in maintaining clinical equipment and supplies.
  • Supervise and monitor students' use of instruments and equipment.
  • Assist in managing medical emergencies.
  • Participate in and evaluate goals for recruitment, admission, retention, promotion, and graduation of students.
  • Ensure confidentiality of student records.
  • Participate in student activities as appropriate.
  • Prescribe medications as necessary.
  • Communicate with dental staff on our team regarding patient medications, diagnoses, treatments, and consultations.
  • Provide appropriate instructional experiences to meet the objectives of the program.
  • Work with the clinical facilities to provide the most suitable clinical experiences for students.
  • Participate in Clinical Forum regarding student progress and faculty communication.
  • Participate in documentation for program and campus.
  • Instruct students on clinical performance, attendance, professionalism, or other concerns as needed (according to program policy).
  • Utilize web shells, classroom technology, computers, and other instructional aids as appropriate.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.
  • Other duties as deemed necessary for the function of the college.

Required Qualifications:

The Part-Time Supervising Dentist shall meet the qualifications specified by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) standards for accreditation.

  • Shall be currently licensed to practice as a Dentist (DDS, DMD, or DD), in Missouri.
  • Shall be a dentist who is a graduate of a program accredited by CODA.
  • Shall be current in BLS/CPR certification.
  • Shall be current in all required immunizations.

Education/Experience:

  • Shall be currently licensed to practice as a Dentist (DDS, DMD, or DD), in Missouri.

The Dentist is expected to be paid hourly, based on clinical instruction time. The number of hours will be determined by the Director of Dental Hygiene.
