GENERAL DESCRIPTION: This is a skilled position responsible for spraying or mechanically removing aquatic weeds and related vegetation. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

The following statements describe the principal functions of the job and its scope of responsibility but should not be considered an all-inclusive list of work requirements.  Individuals may perform other duties as assigned.

  • Prepares activity reports on invasive plant control activities and ensures compliance with other documentation requirements.

• Sprays or mechanically removes invasive plants and related water vegetation in assigned areas.

• Operates air boats, spray pumps, and related equipment in performing invasive plant  control activities. 

• Instructs crew in proper application techniques.

• Maintains and repairs equipment used in conducting invasive plant control.

• Contacts property owners and others in reference to spraying and treating of noxious aquatic plant life.

• Maintains a professional and safe unit and work area adhering to established safety policies and the image desired for the organization. 

• Consistently follows Board policies and procedures.

• Responds productively to change and performs all other related tasks as directed.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of and ability to perform routine maintenance and repairs on equipment used. 

• Ability to safety operate air boats, automotive and spray equipment.

• Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions. 

• Skill in supervising contracted spray operators. 

• Dependability to work in remote and unsupervised situations. 

• Ability to maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, managers, directors, Elected Officials, vendors, and the general public.

PHYSICAL SKILLS:

Must be able to remain in a stationary position for 50% of the time.  Frequently operates various types of equipment to include, but not limited to hand and power tools. Must be able to frequently position self to work under or around various items to perform maintenance tasks.  Constantly inspects and assesses equipment, buildings, and materials to complete daily tasks.  Frequently ascends/descends stairs, ladders, and scaffolding.  Frequently moves materials and office equipment weighing up to 40 lbs. Frequently communicates with the public, vendors, and co-workers.  Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. Frequently works in outdoor weather conditions.  May be required to work in inclement outdoor weather conditions for up to four (4) hours.  In close proximity to bodies of water.  Frequently operates motor vehicle for up to four (4) hours, of which four (4) hours may be continuous. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalent diploma.  Two (2) years of experience in the operation of light trucks and air boats.  LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS: Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver License.  Must possess a Public Applicators Restricted Pesticide License issued by the Florida Department of Agriculture in the categories of "Aquatic" and "Right-of-Way" by the end of the probationary period. OTHER JOB-RELATED REQUIREMENTS: Disaster Essential.  Must be able to swim and operate watercraft.
