Port of Seattle Veterans Fellow - Assistant Facilities Project Manager in Seattle, Washington

Some of what you'll be doing:

The Port of Seattle is committed to assisting military personnel departing active-duty service transition to civilian employment. The Veteran's Fellowship Program is designed to provide short term (6 months) employment that will assist veterans selected for the program in the following areas:

  • Identifying transferrable skills

  • Exposure to a civilian work environment

  • Career assistance

  • Exposure to corporate business practices

  • Mentoring

  • Resume and interview assistance

In this role, you will assist Facilities Project Management in the execution of small works projects through use of on-call contracts, and use of in-house crafts and purchase-installation applications. This position will have the opportunity to perform a wide variety of introductory tasks directly associated with the role of project management.

  • You will co-write work authorizations using on-call contracts, coordinate with stakeholders, crafts and contractors to plan work, monitor construction activities and report progress.

  • You will perform routine documentation tasks under the supervision of fellow project managers.

  • You will support and facilitate small works expense construction projects from approval to completion.

  • You will support project sponsors with project set up, provide estimating services to stakeholders for planning and budgeting, and coordinate project activities with multiple stakeholders.

  • You will perform other duties as assigned.

Who you are:

  • A Veteran – You have a minimum of three (3) years of active duty or mobilized reserve duty service in a branch of the U.S. Military Service (which includes the United States Coast Guard). Documentation of an honorable discharge from active or reserve status must be presented as part of the application process. Veterans Fellowship applicants must be within twenty-four (24) months of discharge to apply for a fellowship unless they have not worked full-time since their discharge and have been a full-time student in a degree or certification program since their discharge.

  • Technically Savvy – You are proficient in computer skills including the use of Microsoft Office Suite applications and have exposure to maintenance software and project delivery systems.

What else you need to know:

  • Driver’s License – You will need a valid Washington State Driver’s License, or the ability to obtain one, is required in order to travel locally to various sites.

  • Work Schedule – Your normal work schedule will be Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (40 hours per week). Slightly more flexible start and end times are available in this role.

  • Work Environment – You will work both remotely and in an office environment as needed to meet departmental business and operational needs. Additionally, you will be in the field conducting site visits and attending project-related meetings as needed.

  • Limited Duration – This is a limited duration position and is expected to last no longer than six months.

  • Security Requirements – As the successful candidate, you must obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC) within the first three months of employment.

  • Safety Requirements – When in the field, you will be required to comply with all work rules, safety, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements.

  • Washington State Residency Requirement – Employees must establish a residence in Washington State within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle. If a position is eligible to telework, work performed while teleworking must be performed in Washington State.
