The HIV Vaccine Trials Network (HVTN) is the world’s largest publicly funded multi-disciplinary international collaboration facilitating the development of vaccines to prevent HIV/AIDS. Most recently, the COVID-19 Prevention Network (CoVPN) was formed by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) at the US National Institutes of Health to respond to the global pandemic. Using the infectious disease expertise of their existing research networks and global partners, NIAID has directed the HVTN to utilize their experience and expertise to address the pressing need for vaccines and antibodies against the SARS-CoV-2 virus. The mission of CoVPN is to conduct Phase 3 Efficacy Trials to prevent infection and COVID-19 disease. CoVPN will work to develop and conduct studies to ensure rapid and thorough evaluation of United States government-sponsored COVID-19 vaccines and antibodies for the prevention of COVID-19 disease.
The Technical Editor, HVTN and CoVPN will assist in the planning, production, and final editing of highly specialized technical and scientific material including clinical trial protocols, protocol amendments, training materials, clinical study reports, manuscripts, grant applications, posters, website content to ensure that all materials meet established standards of appearance and content. Develop and maintain templates for a variety of documents including clinical trial protocols.
Provide final editing of scientific and technical material to improve readability, coherence, accuracy, grammar, and conformity to internal and publishing standards of style.
Develop and maintain templates that govern content and format of clinical trial protocols and related documents. Includes tracking changes and rationales for changes, obtaining consensus and approval from various stakeholders, and bringing issues to resolution. Support annual template meetings.
Manage the assembly and compilation of content for trial-related FAQs, end-of-study information sheets, and other documents related to clinical trials.
Coordinate large document assembly with sections from multiple authors and obtain concurrence from multiple authors on edited material. This includes supporting protocol team meeting Face-to-Face (F2F) technical editing and meeting support.
Provide real-time document support and copyediting during document development and review meetings.
Organize and lead or facilitate meetings related to document templates, technical editing, and/or software or document tips.
Provide other technical, administrative, and coordination support as needed.
Generate tables, figures, graphics, and other visuals for reports, publications, presentations, communications, and reference materials.
Review professional journals and books to stay abreast of new requirements in technical writing field.
Perform other duties as assigned.
BA/BS in biological or related health science field required. MA/MS preferred.
5+ years of scientific editing or writing is required.
Expert in Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Adobe software required; serve as a subject matter expert (super-user) to troubleshoot, mentor, and evaluate solutions
Excellent communication skills, ability to work smoothly with others and contribute to a group effort toward achieving common goals
Organizational skills, close attention to detail, and experience managing multiple projects simultaneously with minimal supervision.
Familiarity with clinical trials and medical writing preferred
Knowledge of Tableau and SharePoint is preferred.
