Our State & Local Tax (SALT) practice is comprised of over 100 professionals. As the premier SALT provider in the West, we help clients compete and succeed by staying up-to-date on the ever-changing, complex state and local tax rules. Responsibilities:

  • Work as a firm-wide resource as part of a multi-disciplinary team of dedicated SALT M&A professionals to assist strategic and private equity clients in delivering both buy-side and sell-side SALT due diligence and structuring services, including opportunities as they relate to services arising out of SALT M&A due diligence

  • Oversee timely advice, reporting, communication and delivery of SALT M&A due diligence and structuring services to clients, including technical aspects of state and local income/franchise taxes, gross receipts, excise, sales/use and other similar taxes, employment taxes, property taxes, and unclaimed property

  • Identify and analyze tax risks and opportunities while advising on SALT matters related to alternative tax strategies for acquisition, disposition, and restructuring of businesses

  • Assist with the review and analysis of purchase agreements, merger agreements and opinion letters from a SALT perspective

  • Act as an additional resource within SALT practice to develop and oversee income/franchise tax and/or sales/use or other indirect or specialty SALT services to drive growth in the marketplace for SALT services

  • Develop and train staff and senior associate-level team members and provide effective leadership as a career advisor, mentor and supervisor over professional staff

Leverage technical knowledge and experience to provide effective project management; delivering timely and responsive services and products that meet or exceed client expectations

  • Assists with proposals and business development, including marketing materials and web-based marketing initiatives

  • Participate and lead in business development and growth in SALT and Tax Specialty Services

  • Write and/or co-authors state and local tax articles for publication

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required; emphasis in accounting, finance or related field preferred; Master’s

  • Degree in taxation or JD/LLM preferred

  • CPA, bar membership or equivalent credential required. If not certified, must meet educational requirements to obtain license upon hire in state of employment

  • Minimum of 4 years of related tax experience required; public accounting experience preferred

  • Previous experience performing tax research and providing technical advice on state and local tax issues required, with 2 years performing SALT M&A services strongly preferred; creative problem solver

  • Must be a highly motivated self-starter and have previous experience handling multiple engagements simultaneously

  • Experience with multi-state income, sales/use, gross receipts, property, employment or other miscellaneous state and local taxes

  • Experience providing leadership and management over professional staff

  • Prior success in leading key business development, project delivery and practice development activities preferred

  • Demonstrate success to the firm around practice development, providing thought leadership and meeting target sales goals by having an established network and participating in various market facing activities, such as industry presentations, webcasts, professional networking events, etc.

  • Experience in serving mid-market clients preferred

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

  • Ability to travel as needed, up to approximately 20%

This is the typical range of pay for the position; however, actual pay may vary based on experience, skillset, and location. This position may be eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. Compensation Range (Denver Market ONLY): Greater Seattle Area: $105,000 -$172,000 Washington State: $100,000 -$164,000 Greater Bay Area: $120,000 -$197,000 California State: $107,000 -$175,000 Colorado: $100,000 -$164,000
