The Enterprise Reporting and Analytics (ERA) team within UW-IT enables the University of Washington data user community to access and use institutional information in support of data-driven decision-making. The data analytics team within ERA is tasked with conducting advanced analytics to enable the University to make informed decisions by using data. ERA is currently seeking a SQL Developer in support of the implementation of Business Intelligence solutions and advanced data analytics capabilities in Azure. As a SQL Developer you will focus on the design, implementation, and operation of data management systems to meet the UW's business needs. This includes designing how the data will be stored, consumed, integrated, and managed by different data entities and digital systems using Azure architecture. This position will work together with data consumers to determine, create, and populate optimal data architectures, structures, and systems. Additional responsibilities include developing prototypes and proof of concepts for the selected solutions, and implementing complex data projects with a focus on collecting, parsing, managing, analyzing and visualizing large sets of data using multiple platforms. Additionally, this role will play a key role in implementing Azure technologies, their configuration and utilization, and the optimization of the full data pipeline infrastructure to support the actual content, volume, and periodicity of data to support the intended kinds of queries and analysis to match expected responsiveness. This role will ensure that data pipelines are scalable, repeatable, and secure, and can serve multiple users within the organization; setup and configure Azure DevOps for continus integration and deployment of artifacts. In addition, this role is responsible for the infrastructure that provides insight from raw data and handles diverse sources of data seamlessly. Additional responsibilities include developing prototypes and proof of concepts for the selected solutions, and implementing complex data projects with a focus on collecting, parsing, managing, analyzing and visualizing large sets of data using multiple platforms; understand how to apply technologies to solve big data problems and to develop innovative big data solutions. REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s Degree Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or equivalent experience 4+ years of experience with data warehouse technical architectures, ETL/ ELT, reporting/analytic tools and, scripting

  • Experience with Azure SQL Experience writing complex SQL queries (to clean and transform data) Demonstrated excellent written/oral communication skills, technical documentation skills, user liaison skills, and personal interaction abilities Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. DESIRED:

  • Experience with Azure DevOps and Data Factory

  • Familiar with on-premise and cloud hybrid solutions Demonstrated ability to document, measure, and improve business processes Ability to think analytically and possesses a familiarity with quantitative measurement Excellent time management and organization skills Comfortable with rapidly changing priorities Proactive communicator CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Open office environment This position is temporarily funded for up to 24 months; continued employment is contingent on ongoing funding and performance.
