As a Software Engineer on our team, you will play a pivotal role in developing features that enable customers to effortlessly identify and engage with the books they own or wish to purchase.

Key job responsibilities

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to conceptualize and implement new features for the Your Books library.

  • Own the development of end-to-end solutions for the Your Books library and other discovery features, ensuring seamless integration across iOS, Android, and web platforms.

  • Design and implement scalable backend micro-service architecture to support the Your Books library and discovery features.

  • Develop algorithms to power personalized recommendations based on customer library and saved books.

  • Continuously optimize the customer experience, focusing on usability and engagement.

A day in the life

  • Work on challenging problems at the intersection of software engineering, data science, and user experience design.

  • Collaborate with talented engineers, product managers, and designers to turn ideas into reality, shaping the future of books discovery.

  • Innovate and iterate on existing features, constantly striving to improve performance, scalability, and customer satisfaction.

  • Stay abreast of industry trends and best practices, applying new technologies and methodologies to drive innovation and excellence in our products.

  • Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement, sharing knowledge, mentoring junior team members, and fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment.

Basic Qualifications

  • 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • 2+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $129,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $223,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
