Amazon Software Development Eng. III, AWS Data Platform in Seattle, Washington

Description

Join a rapidly growing team of software engineers that are building best-in-class tools and large-scale distributed systems managing Big Data on AWS infrastructure.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for big data, strong experience in distributed systems and web services design, as well as an ability to work on highly available production systems.

Our team tackles some of the hardest scalability, performance, and distributed computing challenges in the world. We process billions of line items via map reduce (EMR), and manage artifacts through the latest in database technologies (DynamoDB and Redshift). We process big data and are building our next generation data portal for customers to ingest, explore, and manage their data and query workloads. Because we sit at the nexus of all AWS services and interact directly with end-customers, we also work closely across all AWS teams to ensure that we offer a great customer experience.

If you are a strong developer with experience and interest in high-volume websites, distributed systems and databases, performance and scalability, we'd like to talk to you.

You should have deep expertise in the design, creation, management, and business use of large datasets, across a variety of data platforms. You should have excellent business and communication skills to be able to work with business owners to understand data requirements. You should be an expert at designing, implementing, and operating stable, scalable, low cost solutions to flow massive amounts of data from production systems into the data lake. Above all you should be passionate about working with huge data sets and someone who loves to bring datasets together to answer business questions and drive growth.

Our team is dedicated to supporting new members. We have a broad mix of experience levels and tenures, and we’re building an environment that celebrates knowledge sharing and mentorship. Our senior members enjoy one-on-one mentoring and thorough, but kind, code reviews. We care about your career growth and strive to assign projects based on what will help each team member develop into a better-rounded engineer and enable them to take on more complex tasks in the future.

Key job responsibilities

  • You lead projects that require the work of multiple engineers

  • You own team architecture, providing a system-wide view and design guidance. You are a key influencer in team strategy and goals

  • You understand the business impact of your systems and show good judgment when making technical trade-offs between your team’s short and long-term needs

  • You make existing systems and solutions simpler

  • You balance speed of delivery and foundation for the future.

  • You identify one-way door technical decisions, and advocate for developing the right solution for them.

  • You make engineers stronger because of your presence, but does not depend upon your presence to be successful

  • Your work prioritizes long-term results including software quality, business requirements, customer experience, and maintainability of both your team’s and related team's product(s).

  • You bring perspective and context for current technology choices and guide future technology choices.

  • You make space for others to voice their views. When confronted with differing points of view, you build consensus on the best path forward.
