Amazon Senior Software Dev Engineer, Rust Platform in Seattle, Washington

Description

AWS Developer Tools provide the solutions — SDKs, IDEs, toolkits, CLIs, and CI/CD services — that developers use to build on AWS. Our mission is to provide developers with the tools that make them the most productive in developing and delivering modern cloud applications. We are looking for a senior software engineer with expertise in the Rust programming language to join us in making the Rust language, compiler, and package manager a great developer experience for AWS engineers.

Key job responsibilities

  • Serve as a technical lead on our most demanding, cross-functional projects.

  • Ensure the quality of architecture and design of systems.

  • Functionally decompose complex problems into simple, straight-forward solutions.

  • Fully and completely understand system interdependencies and limitations.

  • Possess expert knowledge in performance, scalability, enterprise system architecture, and engineering best practices.

  • Leverage knowledge of internal and industry prior art in design decisions.

  • Effectively research and benchmark Amazon technology against other competing systems in the industry.

  • Contribute intellectual property through patents.

  • Assist in the career development of others, actively mentoring individuals and the community on advanced technical issues and helping managers guide the career growth of their team members.

  • Exert technical influence over multiple teams, increasing their productivity and effectiveness by sharing your deep knowledge and experience.

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

  • 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience

  • 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team

  • At least 5 years of experience with engineering in Rust

  • At least 1 year of experience with build systems

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

  • At least 1 year experience of contributing to open source projects

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $151,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $261,500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
