Seattle Children's Senior Instructional Designer in Seattle, Washington

The Sr. Instructional Designer will be responsible for collaboratively establishing robust design standards tailored to different audiences and modalities, developing comprehensive learning content management standards and processes, and designing and developing instructional content in a variety of modalities. In addition, the Sr. ID will help mentor and develop other instructional designers.

Essential Functions

Content Design & Development

You will lead instructional design projects and use your expertise to in learning theory, instructional technologies, and human performance improvement to support the development and performance of our diverse workforce.

Partners with Learning and organizational leaders to develop resources and strategies that support cohesive, dynamic learning experiences that incorporate adult learning theory, user experience, design thinking, learning styles and data analytics.

In partnership with Learning managers, develop and implement performance analysis and needs assessment strategies to ensure learning solutions are designed to reflect Seattle Children's values, industry best practices, and the needs of target audiences.

  • Design and develop effective learning curricula and solutions using a variety of modalities and approaches, including eLearning, instructor-led, virtual instructor-led, toolkits, job aids, and just-in-time learning solutions.

  • Work directly with members of the Learning team, learning leadership, subject matter experts, and stakeholder to create and maintain effective workforce and leadership curricula and programs.

  • Develop effective strategies and approaches to measure the impact and effectiveness of learning solutions, and effectively communicate those results to learning leadership and key stakeholders.

  • Work on special projects that fulfill the learning needs of the organization

Learning Standards and Content Management Process

You will lead an effort to develop a learning content management strategy and approach that will ensure that the creation and maintenance of learning content is effective and efficient. You will also help establish clear standards, guidelines and templates for learning content that will ensure high quality deliverable and efficient creation of learning content.

  • Develop, communicate and champion comprehensive learning content and design standards, including developing guidelines, templates and other resources as needed.

  • Develop a learning content management approach/process that helps organize learning content logically for learners, allows the learning team to effectively manage source content, and establishes a course production/publishing/revision process to ensure quality and scalability.

  • Mentor others on instructional design best practices.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated knowledge of eLearning technologies (Articulate 360 preferred) and Adult Education Theory.

  • Ability to apply instructional design and curriculum development methodologies (ISD, ADDIE), and learning strategies in corporate learning programs.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop learning materials in various modalities, including eLearning, instructor-led, virtual instructor-led, job aids, toolkits, and just-in-time learning resources.

  • Ability to effectively collaborate, negotiate, and interview key partners and Subject Matter Experts to solicit learning requirements, existing content, and development needs.

  • Excellent planning and project management capabilities, with the ability to lead and manage multiple projects simultaneously, and to effectively communicate status to key stakeholders.

  • Excellent organizational agility (able to identify and work with many groups to achieve results), with the ability to lead and drive change.

  • Proven ability to maneuver through unstructured problems and create the necessary structure to drive results.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, and proficiency using Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

  • Ability to train and mentor other designers on tools, best practices, and standards.

  • Ability to effectively create data-driven approaches to evaluate the effectiveness of learning solutions.

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication abilities

  • Stays up-to-date on instructional design research and current events in the instructional design space, and incorporates the latest, most effective learning strategies into courses and learning materials.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Minimum seven (7) years of work experience in the field of instructional design, including experience designing and delivering training solutions to large organizations.

  • Minimum two (2) years of work experience developing learning, eLearning, or multimedia products using Articulate 360 (or other eLearning development tools).

Required Credentials

Preferred

  • Master's Degree in Education or related field.

  • Master's Degree in a relevant field, such as Instructional Technology or Instructional Systems Design, eLearning Design, or Interactive Media

  • Industry certifications in one or more of the following areas: instructional design, human performance improvement, curriculum development and design, project management, or other relevant areas.

  • Multi-media development experience - audio, video, and/or animation.

  • Experience building and maintaining a content management system/approach/processes for the effective management of learning content.

  • Experience working with, and publishing content to, learning management systems.

  • Experience building comprehensive learning content and design standards and templates.

Compensation Range

$92,477.00 - $138,715.00 per year

Salary Information

This compensation range was calculated based on full-time employment (2080 hours worked per calendar year). Offers are determined by multiple factors including equity, skills, experience, and expertise, and may vary within the range provided.

This compensation range is specific to Seattle, positions located outside of Seattle may be compensated differently depending on various factors .
