Some of what you'll be doing:

As a Senior Environmental Program Manager, you will be responsible for developing and implementing Sea-Tac Airport’s sustainable transportation program, leading and advancing SEA’s transition to fossil-based to low-carbon and sustainable transportation modes for passengers and employees traveling. This program develops and advances strategies that are highly complex and controversial. You will work under consultative direction to develop and implement solutions to complex environmental issues where analysis of options or approaches can be unprecedented and require an in-depth evaluation of many diverse factors.

• You will lead sustainability studies, projects, and strategic plans for to reduce carbon from on-road transportation sources operating at or near SEA Airport.

• You will manage complex projects and sustainability initiatives including developing multi-year strategies, projects schedules, and work plans designed to promote low emission transportation modes including electric vehicles, active transportation, and public transit. This may include recommendations for electric vehicle purchases, electric charging stations, and infrastructure to support active transportation.

• You will act as an expert advisor and provide technical and professional consultation to business units and Port leadership on issues related to assigned projects/programs.

• You will analyze recommendations for policy, community concerns, and potential controversy and develop options for forward movement.

• You will research and develop a deep understanding of transformational technologies that may not be ready for significant private investment or deployment at scale.

• You will act as a representative for the department at interdepartmental and interagency meetings and participate in presentations before Port Commissioners, committees, and other public agencies.

• You will provide outreach on complex and controversial issues to diverse audiences and stakeholders, including the public, and both internal and external senior/executive level staff.

• You will develop, manage, and administer the budget for assigned projects/programs and support cost recovery activities.

• You will manage the planning, development, and administration of complex contracts including developing Request for Quote/Request for Proposal (RFQs/RFPs), scope of work, and budgets.

• You will coordinate with Finance to set up tracking systems and documentation systems to enable cost recovery tracking.

• You will develop and lead innovative policies and strategies to accomplish environmental goals and lead coalitions and partnerships to support buy-in and enhance outcomes.

• You will supervise and direct the work of one staff member.

Who you are:

• Experienced – You have five (5) years of experience in environmental and/or sustainability, to include two (2) years of lead, mentor, or supervisory experience including a project or process.

• Desired – We hope you have a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental or Physical Sciences, Engineering, Economics, Environmental Management, Planning or Policy. We also hope you have any of the following certifications/licenses: Professional Engineer (PE), ASHRAE Energy Manager, Registered Architect American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP), LEED Accredited Professional (LEED-AP), and/or Project Management Professional (PMP).

• Analytical – You can assess complex environmental issues and develop strategic, innovative, or unprecedented resolutions. You can analyze multiple technical and policy reports and understand emerging technologies and solutions/strategies and policies.

• Interpersonal – You have proven effective negotiation and facilitation skills. You have effective problem-solving skills working in and leading teams and cross-functional working groups.

What else you need to know:

• Work Schedule – Your normal work schedule will be Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (40 hours per week). You may be required to work any and all assigned shifts, including weekends and holidays. You may be required to work during emergencies and on-call to address any issues that could adversely impact Port operations.

• Work Environment - This work will take place in a hybrid/in-office setting at Management’s discretion.

• Washington State Residency Requirement – Employees must establish a residence in Washington state within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle. If a position is eligible to telework, work performed while teleworking must be performed in Washington State.

• Security Requirements – As the successful candidate, you must pass a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) background check as well as a criminal history background check with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Your employment will be contingent upon obtaining a Port of Seattle ID badge upon clearance.
