As the Principal Mechanical Engineer you will encompass a broad range of mechanical engineering responsibilities. You will be highly focused on medical device development in a fast paced environment. You will ensure the quality of the products are highly portable, rugged, and very easy to use. Specific tasks include the creation and refinement of complex parts and assemblies using SolidWorks, simulation and analysis of various design alternatives using simulation packages (thermal, and stress), creation and evaluation of rapid prototypes, and engineering confidence testing of design solutions. This position will also oversee the interaction with suppliers to implement solutions, and interface with operations engineering staff to introduce new products to manufacturing. Other key responsibilities include ownership of project schedules, and participation in the generation and refinement of product requirements. This position also provides an excellent opportunity to mentor junior engineering staff.
Essential Job Functions:
Oversee and Implement mechanical designs using SolidWorks tools.
Develop and/or improve NPI processes through active participation in ongoing development in both new and Sustaining areas, identifying opportunities for improvements.
Designs, develops, and tests all aspects of mechanical components, equipment and machinery.
Applies engineering principles to design products.
Take lead of engineering confidence testing & generate technical reports.
Takes Lead of creation of models and documentation to facilitate sourcing and manufacture of designs (drawings, specs, manufacturing process assistance).
May be involved in fabrication, operation, application, installation and repair of mechanical products.
Ability to prioritize work and break down assignments into tasks that can be organized and executed to meet assignment performance and time goals.
Key resource in configuration management and control of NPI and Sustaining projects using Agile and develop strategies for optimum implementation.
Tracking daily progress of samples/experiments and providing accurate updates and creating/maintaining a central spreadsheet. Producing reports and assessments of tooling and/or fixture related improvements to yields and results in production and/or prototype environments.
Take Lead with members of the Mechanical engineering or other associated groups as necessary for transducer mechanical engineering related issues.
Knowledge and Experience:
BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience. MS mechanical engineering or equivalent experience is a plus.
10+ years experience in mechanical design working with injection-molded plastics, magnesium and aluminum die-casting, aluminum extrusions, sheet metal, thermal management and EMI / RFI shielding.
Expert level skills with SolidWorks software including surfacing tools.
Demonstrated electronics packaging experience in the context of hand-carried, rugged devices
Experience working in a design-driven, customer centric environment
ISO, FDA or other regulated industry training and experience.
Extensive experience in product development from conception to release.
Experience with FEA strongly preferred (thermal simulations, stress analysis)
Experience designing tablets or laptops are strongly preferred.
Skills and Abilities:
Ability to lift 25lbs with or without accommodations.
Ability to communicate effectively both within other groups in Engineering and throughout the company.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
