The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology has outstanding opportunities for Phlebotomists .

WORK SCHEDULE

  • High school graduation AND completion of a phlebotomy courseOR

  • Equivalent education/experience

  • Legal Requirement: Current Medical Assistant-Phlebotomy Certification (MA-P) with the Washington State Department of Health, OR obtain the MA-P within 60 days of start date. PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare patient and collection equipment according to established procedures for blood collection.

  • Verify patient identity before performing collection.

  • Perform phlebotomy on patients of all ages.

  • Instruct patients on proper collection of urine specimens.

  • Perform laboratory-testing procedures such as Prothrombin time, and Whole blood glucose testing.

  • Interact professionally with patients, their families, departmental and hospital staff.

  • Prioritize to work effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment.

  • Assist in the orientation and training of students and new employees.

  • Support service and UWAMC goals, service efficiency, and effectiveness through such activities as: participating in problem solving, demonstrating support for policies, sharing expertise, and contributing to project work and committees.

  • Promote and contribute to the development of teamwork in the service and working relationships between the laboratory and other departments.

  • Form productive working relationships with coworkers

  • Communicate clearly, directly and on a timely basis.

  • Act as role model/mentor to new staff in same job class.

  • Open to receiving feedback and making constructive changes as a result.

  • Open to receiving directions and asking for assistance when needed.

  • Keep abreast of safety procedures including fire plan, disaster drills, evacuation routes, etc.

  • Demonstrate a courteous, respectful, professional attitude, and behavior at all times.?

  • Represent the Department professionally.
