The HARBORVIEW MEDICAL CENTER PHARMACY DEPARTMENT has an outstanding opportunity for a PER DIEM PHARMACIST INTERN - YEAR ONE (Rotating/Variable Shifts) to assist the pharmacist in professional activities and performing assigned tasks under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist. Engage in preparation and packaging of medication and other pharmacist related functions under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist. Routinely interacts with the public.

This opportunity is open to currently enrolled UW School of Pharmacy students, Year 1. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: Outpatient Pharmacy: • Perform certified order entry of medication orders from the outpatient pharmacy computer. • Perform filling of prescriptions o Utilization of ScriptPro Central for filling, labeling and batching o Assist on-line processing of prescription orders o Assist patients with new and refill prescription orders o Pricing o Determination of payment mode o Assist patient with alternate sources of payment • Perform charging and billing functions o Third-party billing o Collection of payments and co-payments • Staff in satellite clinic pharmacy areas

Inpatient Pharmacy: • Package medications into single-unit packages. • Package patient specific medications in single-unit packages. • Maintain neat and accurate packaging records. • Fill Ward Stock Requisition sheets for nursing units. • Fill medications from Pyxis refill sheets for entire hospital. • Perform certified checking of Pyxis refill and IV batches. • Perform computer functions including label printing, charge/credit data, and order entry of prescriptions. • Delivery of medications and IV admixtures to nursing units or other areas of the hospital. • Prepare IV admixtures using proper aseptic technique in an accurate, efficient and timely manner. • Maintain current aseptic technique certification.

REQUIREMENTS: Six months of experience as a Pharmacy Assistant OR equivalent education/experience.

LEGAL REQUIREMENT: Certification as a Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacist Intern with the Washington State Board of Pharmacy.
