The HARBORVIEW MEDICAL CENTER PHARMACY DEPARTMENT is looking for an outstanding PER DIEM PHARMACIST INTERN - YEAR TWO , to assist the pharmacist in professional activities and performing assigned tasks under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist. Engage in preparation and packaging of medication and other pharmacist related functions under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist. Routinely interacts with the public.
This opportunity is open to currently enrolled UW School of Pharmacy students, Year 2 .
Responsibilities: Outpatient Pharmacy: • Perform certified order entry of medication orders from the outpatient pharmacy computer. • Perform filling of prescriptions o Utilization of ScriptPro Central for filling, labeling and batching o Assist on-line processing of prescription orders o Assist patients with new and refill prescription orders o Pricing o Determination of payment mode o Assist patient with alternate sources of payment • Perform charging and billing functions o Third-party billing o Collection of payments and co-payments • Staff in satellite clinic pharmacy areas
Inpatient Pharmacy: • Package medications into single-unit packages. • Package patient specific medications in single-unit packages. • Maintain neat and accurate packaging records. • Fill Ward Stock Requisition sheets for nursing units. • Fill medications from Pyxis refill sheets for entire hospital. • Perform certified checking of Pyxis refill and IV batches. • Perform computer functions including label printing, charge/credit data, and order entry of prescriptions. • Delivery of medications and IV admixtures to nursing units or other areas of the hospital. • Prepare IV admixtures using proper aseptic technique in an accurate, efficient and timely manner. • Maintain current aseptic technique certification.
General Departmental Responsibilities:
• Answer inquiries under the general supervision of a pharmacist. • Counsel patient on appropriate use of their mediations under pharmacist supervision. • Perform clinical review of patient profiles under the general supervision of a pharmacist. • Maintain inventory control of pharmaceuticals and supplies. • Complete monthly clinic inspections or unit inspections. • Assist in preparation of compound pharmaceuticals under the direct supervision of a pharmacist. • Assist in training and orientation of pharmacy technicians, other interns and pharmacists. • Attend clinical conferences, summer intern conferences and annual retreat. • Prepare presentations as assigned for clinical conferences. • Maintain pharmacy work areas in a neat, orderly and clean fashion at all times. • Demonstrate attitudes and behaviors that contribute to a positive work environment. • Complete all Goals and Objectives as outlined in the Pharmacy Intern Program. • Maintain patient confidentiality according to Harborview Medical Center and HIPAA standards. • Know and follow all Harborview Medical Center and Department of Pharmacy Policies and Procedures. • Perform all related duties as assigned.
Desired: • Excellent oral and written communication skills. • Excellent analytical and organizational skills. • Ability to work independently. • Experience with computer systems and data entry preferred. • Ability to type 40 wpm, and use other standard equipment accurately and efficiently.
