Position in this function is under the supervision of the Specimen Processing Supervisor; the position is responsible for processing of specimens and performing various laboratory support procedures in the main laboratory processing department. The Lab Assistant must be proficient with computer data entry to maintain patient demographic as well as test ordering details in multiple computer systems in accordance with compliance guidelines. The Lab Assistant will process, prepare and package patient samples for in-house testing and reference laboratories.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Work as a team member within the laboratory department, and with all other clinic departments

  • Ability to take multiple phone calls and find answers to all calls, in a calm and pleasant manner

  • Possess excellent customer service skills for use on the phone and with clinic staff members

  • Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve with attention to detail

  • Process and prepare specimens for in house testing

  • Process and prepare specimens for send out testing going to outside reference labs

  • Pour off urines for in house testing as well as send out testing

  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma, GED or its equivalency

  • 1+ years of recent Phlebotomy or Lab Assistant processing experience in a clinical laboratory

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in specimen processing including esoterica reference lab specimen handling and packaging

  • Knowledge of laboratory tests and laboratory ordering processes

Washington Residents Only: The hourly range for this role is $16.00 to $28.27 per hour. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
