Prime Air is seeking an an experienced and highly skilled manager to oversee Quality and Compliance for Prime Air's in-service fleet of delivery drones. In this role you will be responsible for overseeing the ongoing development and implementation of a comprehensive Quality Management System (QMS) for our in-service operations. Additionally, you will manage teams responsible for regulatory compliance, safety oversight, regulated employee screening, drug/alcohol testing oversight, hazmat compliance, crew currency tracking, incident reporting, data collection, aircraft certifications/registrations, and commercial operations quality case management.

Export Control License: This position may require a deemed export control license for compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Placement is contingent on Amazon’s ability to apply for and obtain an export control license on your behalf.

Key job responsibilities

• Lead the development and implementation of a robust QMS, including processes for nonconformance management, maintenance compliance oversight, and continuous improvement initiatives.

• Oversee the Continuing Analysis and Surveillance System (CASS) program in accordance with 14 CFR Part 135, ensuring continuous monitoring and analysis of operational data for safety and compliance.

• Collaborate with Designated Airworthiness Representatives (DARs) and the FAA Certificate Management Section to maintain the flight test fleet of drones in compliance with Experimental airworthiness certificate conditions and limitations, as well as applicable Certificates of Waiver or Authorization (COAs) and exemption conditions and limitations.

• Oversee the Prime Air's Drug and Alcohol Testing Program, including the management of the FAA Drug and Alcohol Designated Employer Representative (DER).

• Lead and oversee the quality engineering team responsible for monitoring in-service operations metrics, conducting data analysis, and driving continuous improvement initiatives.

• Leverage the quality engineering team's expertise in statistical analysis, root cause analysis, and data-driven decision making to identify opportunities for performance optimization and risk mitigation.

• Manage the commercial operations quality case management program, investigating and resolving issues impacting delivery performance and efficiency.

• Manage and provide leadership to the Learning and Development Manager overseeing the optimization of onboarding and training curricula for various operational roles.

• Oversee incident reporting, non-conformance tracking, and compliance with regular operational reporting requirements to meet safety and regulatory obligations.

• Ensure compliance with safety, regulatory, and environmental standards across all operational sites.

• Manage budgets, resource allocation, and staffing requirements for the teams under your leadership.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality Management, Aviation, or a related field.

• Minimum of 7 years of experience in quality management, safety management systems, aviation operations management, or airline/aviation regulatory compliance.

• Thorough understanding of FAA regulations, including 14 CFR Part 135 (CASS), airworthiness standards, drug and alcohol testing requirements, and quality management principles.

• Proven leadership and team management skills, including experience managing managers and technical personnel such as quality engineers, DARs, and the Drug and Alcohol DER.

• Strong knowledge of quality engineering principles, statistical process control, and data analysis techniques.

• Proficiency in root cause analysis methodologies (e.g., 5 Whys, Fishbone diagrams, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis).

• Knowledge of training program management, instructional design principles, and adult learning methodologies.

• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making abilities.

• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.

• Experience in budget management and resource allocation.

• Experience in conducting or managing internal audits, evaluations, or inspection programs related to aircraft airworthiness, maintenance, and drug/alcohol testing programs.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in a relevant field.

• Experience in drone/unmanned aircraft operations or the aviation industry.

• Lean Six Sigma or other continuous improvement certifications.

• Knowledge of Learning Management Systems (LMS) and training curriculum development.

• Experience in implementing and managing technology platforms or systems.

• Familiarity with UAS and aircraft certification processes for experimental airworthiness certificate issuance.

• Experience working with the FAA and Designated Airworthiness Representatives (DARs) on airworthiness certification activities.

• Familiarity with industry-specific quality standards and best practices (e.g., AS9100, ISO 9100).

• Experience leading quality engineering teams in monitoring and improving operational processes.

• Knowledge of quality tools and software (e.g., Minitab, SPC XL, Tableau).

• Experience overseeing and evaluating the effectiveness of corporate training programs and learning initiatives.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $135,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $234,900/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
