**If you are a current FIB employee, please apply through the Career Worklet in the Employee Portal.SUMMARYThe Underwriting Manager is responsible for all credit aspects of the Home Loans origination process, including the development and oversight of all staff underwriters and external contract underwriting relationships. This role is a key member of the leadership and management team for Home Loans and works with other key leaders on implementing and fulfilling our mission to serve our communities and clients with their home financing needs through bank portfolio, conventional Agency, Government or USDA loan programs. The Underwriting Manager ensures proper adherence to Investor and Agency guidelines, internal credit policy and procedure, as well as all credit related state and federal laws and regulatory requirements.ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following; other duties may be assigned.Owns, maintains and enhances internal Portfolio Product credit approval guidelines for our full suite of residential products, including conventional 1st and 2nd mortgages, lot, construction and closed-end home equity, assisting also with new product definition and implementation.Develops internal training programs for underwriters and works with internal or external partners to deliver or administer staff training and development, both new and ongoing. Ensures communication of all relevant industry and company developments.Sets direction and strategy for the Underwriting team, driving process and performance improvements.Manages and provides oversight for Underwriting Team Leads and staff underwriters as well as external relationships with third-party service providers within the credit space for Home Loans.Coordinates with bank Credit partners on credit escalations and second level review when necessary according to internal policy. Supports the appraisal review process for all residential real estate transactions.Works with Quality Control department to ensure a high level of credit quality on approved loans, ensuring all loans are of marketable quality. Assists in the resolution of Post-Closing issues through active coordination among internal groups.Manages the loan application pipeline and workflow to facilitate efficient movement of loans through Underwriting stages and to fulfill department established goals for file turn times, overall cycle times and client service levels.Tracks, analyzes and reports on various department quality and efficiency metrics, including Credit approval and guideline or policy exceptions.Maintains a working knowledge of new and relevant government regulations, real estate laws, agency or investor guidelines and distributes relevant updates to Underwriting, Operations and Sales staff.Serve as a direct escalation point for Underwriting, Sales and Operations, for the most unusual or complex file issues, including detailed directions regarding the review of borrower financial statements, credit reports, income calculations and applicable qualification ratios.Encourages, supports and builds positive, strong culture and collaborative working relationships with Sales, Operations and Fulfillment staff, ones that value team member contributions.Adheres to all applicable compliance regulations and ensures the accuracy and completeness of required credit file documentation.
