Starbucks director, Partner & Labor Communications (Hybrid - U.S.) in Seattle, Washington

We are looking for a  director, Partner & Labor Communications who will lead a small team of communication managers and agency partners dedicated to providing outstanding internal and external communication strategies, execution and support to our labor relations organization and company leaders. This partner will be responsible for designing, developing, and delivering labor relations communication strategies and tools that connect every partner to their Starbucks Experience, as well as lead Starbucks communications efforts in building and maintaining a productive relationship with unions in the Starbucks North America business. As the Communications lead on our Partner & Labor Relations team, this director will work closely with the broader Starbucks internal and external communication, legal, issues, public policy teams, and retail leaders across the country.

We are looking for someone who leads through our Starbucks Mission, Promises & Values and has a track record of achieving excellence through delivering on priorities, problem-solving, building capability and leadership, and developing high performing teams. That means:

  • Experience working closely as a trusted expert with senior leaders to identify needs, define strategy, develop action plans, identify deliverables, present results, measure outcomes, and provide recommendations.

  • Great experience leveraging data and insights to develop and implement employee communications and engagement plans that support leaders and their teams to listen, learn, share, celebrate and come together in service of each other, communities and building a better, different kind of company, together.

  • Knowledge of and leadership within legal, partner, & labor relations including the organizing, bargaining, ethics and legal process and how to engage partners in both unionized and non-unionized workplaces.

  • Being a champion for partner experience, our Mission and nurturing a positive company culture, by finding new ways to connect partners and share stories.

  • Expertise in developing and implementing both reactive and proactive communications strategies and plans – including retail communications and media relations- and rapid response support to leaders.

  • Ensuring inclusion, diversity, equity and accessibility are integrated into practices at all levels. 

  • Leading with a growth mindset and acting as a catalyst for change – seeing opportunities and driving improvements.

We’d love to hear from people with:

  • Bachelors degree and a preferred minimum of 10 years advanced experience in consulting and working with senior leaders in the design, development, and execution of partner communications & engagement strategies and initiatives, including change management, in unionized and non-unionized workplaces

  • Preferred minimum of 10 years of leading a high-performing team and agency partners

  • A deep curiosity for store operations and what it’s like to be a Starbucks partner. The ideal candidate understands the right voice and tone necessary for our store manager, shift supervisor and barista audiences and has a demonstrated understanding of Starbucks and its retail business. 

  • Progressive experience providing communications counsel and leading development of effective communications (written, visual, digital) for employee audiences

  • Experience establishing collaborative initiatives with multiple departments.

  • Demonstrated project management experience, providing effective oversight across the design, delivery, and outcome stages.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage time, prioritize tasks, work independently and maintain confidentiality.

  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills, proven track record of building strong collaborative relationships with senior stakeholders

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)

*If you are working in CA, CO, IL, LA, ME, MA, NE, ND or RI, you will accrue vacation up to a maximum of 120 hours (190 in CA) for roles below director and 200 hours (316 in CA) for roles at director or above. For roles in other states, you will be granted vacation time starting at 120 hours annually for roles below director and 200 hours annually for roles director and above.

The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, and internal equity. At Starbucks, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at the high end of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.

If you live in the greater Seattle area, we offer a flexible workplace that allows for hybrid work. Partners can work remotely up to two days per week.
