The School of Public Health (SPH) Dean’s Office has an outstanding opportunity for a temporary Curriculum and Education Operations Specialist to join their team.

SPH is comprised of five academic departments—Biostatistics, Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences, Epidemiology, Global Health (joint with the School of Medicine), and Health Systems and Population Health—along with 5 Interdisciplinary Programs housed in the Office of the Dean. The Temporary Curriculum and Education Operations Specialist will be responsible for facilitating the process of SPH-wide course review and approval, staying current with best practices in curriculum management, serve as liaison and advocate between departments, programs, School, and the University of Washington Curriculum Office, supporting curriculum-focused committees, and supporting academic affairs and education-focused work. Finally, the position will be supporting work tied to the School’s 2020-25 Strategic Plan to “deliver high-quality evidenced-based education across all degree programs.”

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Curriculum Management (40%)

  • Participating in the development of School of Public Health (SPH) policies and procedures related to curriculum through membership on the Curriculum and Education Policy Committee (CEPC). Manage and support the curriculum review and approval process for the SPH as a representative of the Office of the Dean. This includes curriculum (courses, programs, and degrees) additions, deletions, and changes through the UW curriculum management system.

  • Serving as the main point of contact for CEPC, curriculum coordinators, and the Office of the Dean on the institutional curriculum submission, review, and approval processes.

  • Orienting department and program curriculum staff to SPH, CEPC, Graduate School, and UW Curriculum Office curricular procedures, including providing assistance with documentation to ensure successful execution of curricular updates.

  • Evaluating the success of policies and practices while proactively engaging, collaborating, and communicating with stakeholders as appropriate.

  • Working in close collaboration with the Manager of Strategic Initiatives to ensure accreditation requirements are met through SPH curriculum.

  • Attending various ad hoc meetings regarding curriculum development as needed.

  • Serving as a liaison to departments and programs concerning the decisions made by the CEPC. This includes communicating upcoming programmatic changes to appropriate SPH student services and curriculum staff.

  • Communicating with departments regarding upcoming deadlines related to CEPC and the UW Curriculum Office.

  • Managing the monthly meetings and annual retreat of CEPC. Responsibilities include scheduling, creating the agenda, taking meeting minutes, updating the curriculum management tool, gathering and managing resources and documents, and communications post-meeting.

  • Tracking status of curriculum-related approvals from the UW Curriculum Office to applicable SPH stakeholders to identify roadblocks.

  • Scheduling, planning, and facilitating quarterly meetings for SPH curriculum coordinators.

  • Researching and responding to inquiries and requests for information from SPH faculty.Education Management and Support (30%)

  • Supporting trainings and meetings with faculty and staff promoting educational excellence including scheduling, meeting preparations, meeting minutes, and communications.

  • Drafting communications for the Associate Dean for Education for distribution to applicable parties.

  • Supporting other education-related trainings and meetings facilitated by the Office of the Dean, including any proposed new workshops or pilot programs for SPH faculty.

  • Maintaining and regularly updating the Teaching Support WordPress site that provides resources to support faculty and staff.

  • Maintaining and updating as needed the SPH Curriculum and Educational Policy and Procedures Manual.

  • Managing the SPH syllabus template including updating language and links as needed each quarter.

  • Ensuring the collection of all SPH course syllabi each quarter, and assessing all syllabi for content and consistency.

  • Supporting the efforts of the Washington State Public Health Academic Learning Collaborative (WA PHALCO) by attending meetings, assisting with planning and scheduling, and keeping accurate notes and documentation.Operations and Administration (30%)

  • Managing process improvement efforts, including developing, documenting, and maintaining written policies and procedures related to the operational functions of the position.

  • Supporting ongoing schoolwide meetings (e.g., CEPC, Program Directors and Managers, and Curriculum Coordinators) as assigned to include supporting committee chair(s) via thought partnership, drafting and publishing meeting agendas, taking meeting minutes, posting/providing meeting materials on SharePoint sites, scheduling meetings, and producing printed materials for meetings when appropriate.

  • Developing, implementing, and overseeing the administration of processes and systems that support the charge of any additional ad-hoc committees or working groups.

  • Collaborating with appropriate staff and faculty to maintain the UW Course and Degree Catalogs, the SPH web site, and other portals with curriculum information.

  • Planning events hosted by the Associate Dean for Education.

  • Managing Time Schedule and Add Codes for PHI 500.

  • Other duties as appropriate, including special projects or initiatives assigned by the supervisor. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in Education or related field, plus 2-3 years of experience working in academic affairs, curriculum, accreditation, and/or higher education administration. Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Knowledge of higher education curriculum development principles and trends.

  • Knowledge of instruction and teaching methods.

  • Knowledge of student learning outcomes and assessments.

  • Familiarity with the UW Time Schedule Construction and Update systems.

  • Familiarity with WordPress.

  • Skill in reading and writing meeting minutes for committees on complex topics.

  • Skill in communicating effectively both in oral and written form.

  • Ability to utilize computer technology for communication and reporting activities.

  • Experience contributing to and supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's of Education.

  • Experience in curriculum management or in higher educational program management.

  • Experience in project management.

  • Experience in a compliance driven environment.

  • Experience working in higher education.

  • Experience with database development and management.

  • Experience with UW systems and procedures.

  • Knowledge of UW curriculum policies and procedures.
