Will rotate in various civil engineering duties including: Civil Waterfront and Ports: Participate in the design and preparation of documents for civil site development and Port improvements (site layout, grading, storm water, erosion control, utilities, and other infrastructure systems) Assist and support designs and construction projects by studying project concept, architectural drawings, and models Assist the preparation of engineering designs by collecting and studying reports, maps, drawings, aerial photographs, and tests on soil composition, terrain, hydrological characteristics, and related topographical and geologic data Create feasibility study by analyzing engineering design, conducting environmental impact studies, and assembling data Coastal: Analyze the coastal environment and forcings for coastal project sites, including potential impacts of climate change and sea level rise Contribute to the design for various coastal projects and project elements including shore stabilization, dredging plans, shoreline restoration, marina design, breakwaters, jetties, and navigation channels Apply coastal models to study waves, currents, and sediment transport Assist with coastal engineering design, including living shorelines, shoreline stabilization, flood resiliency projects. Tasks may include preparing engineering plans, specifications, and quantity estimates Assist with the design of deep draft navigation channels, including vessel simulations Apply various computer models to simulate floating vessels & structures (e.g., container ships, cruise ships, or oil tankers) to support marine terminal design efforts Prepare calculation for wind waves, scour protection, revetment design, wave run-up, and wave forces on structures Structures: Perform analysis and design of waterfront structures, inspection of waterfront structures and other maritime project tasks Structural analysis of marine structures, including but not limited to piers, wharves, bulkheads, seawalls, offshore platforms, mooring and berthing dolphins, catwalks, utility support structures, drainage structures, retaining walls, towers and foundations Design of timber, steel, reinforced concrete, prestressed concrete, aluminum, and composite materials Perform design calculations and prepare des
