Silver Bay Seafoods, LLC Assistant Plant Manager - 8 Locations in Seattle, Washington

As an Assistant Plant Manager at one of our Alaska seafood processing facilities, is responsible for overseeing daily operations and ensuring production efficiency. This role will supervise production teams, manage schedules, and implement quality control measures. This role involves maintaining compliance with safety and regulatory standards, as well as addressing employee concerns and training staff. Additionally, the Assistant Plant Managers may be involved in cost control, inventory management, and continuous improvement initiatives, all while aiding the Plant Manager.

Essential Functions/Qualifications

The responsibilities of the position include the following:

  • Active leadership and participation in setting production and quality standards and takes action to ensure standards are met or exceeded.
  • Establish plant priorities and objectives consistent with Silver Bay Seafoods business and production needs.
  • Coordinate capital project plans to meet plant and corporate needs.
  • Participate in setting facility budgets and manage the facility to ensure budget expectations are achieved.
  • Manage the facility to assure positive employee relations and meet all safety and environmental standards.
  • Ensure that plant key productivity indicators are measured, and the results communicated through the facility and to Silver Bay Seafoods corporate.
  • Direct the activities of plant staff to ensure that productivity and cost effectiveness objectives/goals are met or exceeded.
  • Responsible for maintaining good relationships with the local community.
  • Develop an organization that will identify and provide training for plant employees.
  • Responsible for ensuring that direct reports are provided, meaningful opportunities for personnel and professional development and career enhancement.
  • Address and handle personnel matters with confidentiality, sensitivity and in accordance with company and legal guidelines.
  • Other duties are to ensure the facility and organization is fully supported and successful.

Competencies

To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following functional and interpersonal competencies:

Functional

  • Seafood Industry Knowledge:Strong knowledge of white fish processing; white fish fisheries include pollock, cod, herring, POP, rockfish, halibut, black cod.
  • Production Management:Ability to oversee and manage all aspects of plant operations, including production planning, scheduling, and resource allocation.
  • Quality Control:Knowledge of quality control procedures and ability to ensure compliance with food safety regulations.
  • Software Competency:Strong skills in Microsoft Office applications, especially Work, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Equipment Maintenance:Understanding of plant equipment, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Cost Control:Skill in managing costs and improving efficiency.
  • Problem-Solving:Ability to identify and resolve issues related to production, quality, or safety.
  • Regulatory Compliance:Knowledge of and adherence to good manufacturing practices, environmental laws, and labor standards.

Education and Experience

  • BS/BA degree preferred.
  • Management, Engineering or Technical degree preferred.
  • 7+ years of experience in seafood or food manufacturing management in positions of progressive responsibility.
  • 3-5 years of seafood industry leadership experience required.
  • Salmon and White fish production experience is required.
  • Prior production and food safety training and certifications are preferred.
