The OPERATIONS AND MAINTENANCE DEPARTMENT has an outstanding opportunity for a FULL TIME, DAY SHIFT, DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS & MAINTENANCE. The DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS & MAINTENANCE will lead a management team to maintain and operate facility mechanical, electrical, electronic, and structural infrastructure, as well as fixed and portable direct patient care and support equipment, in a large, world-class, complex, 24/7 medical center. RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Directs managers to ensure timely completion of repairs, maintenance, and testing of all building related systems

  • Collaboratively leads teams of various sizes and makeup to respond to critical hospital emergencies, such as water contamination, leaks, mechanical failure, and sewage backups

  • Reviews asset data and research to provide plans for capital investments and operational repairs

  • Reviews key performance indicator metrics and evaluates performance of management team

  • Writes departmental policies and procedures, including those needed for operational functions and regulatory compliance

  • Reviews and responds to incident/accident/quality improvement and utility disruption reports

  • Interviews and hires full and part time employees, trains employees, conducts employee evaluations, counsels and administers disciplinary action when needed

  • Gives detailed, vital input to department Director and Senior Director concerning activities, structure and direction of work unit

  • Provide support and leadership during department Director’s absence

  • Responds to off-hour emergencies

  • Responds to client concerns dealing with operations, maintenance, and alteration projects

  • Maintains client relations and provides outstanding customer service

  • Estimates job costs. Maintains strict budget oversight when approving material, parts, tools, and equipment requests

  • Manages and reviews service contracts to ensure proper performance

  • Coordinates with contractors, project managers, trades specialists, schedules, Infection Control, Public Safety, clinical staff, affected departments, etc. to respond to and resolve emergency repairs

  • Represents department and organization at high level and detailed project and operational planning meetings, gathers data, meets with consultants and contractors, and reviews prints and specifications for construction, remodel, and maintenance projects

  • Assists in interviewing and selecting consultants

  • Participates in the selection of complex infrastructure and building systems and equipment

  • Represents department in place of Director or Senior Director as needed when meeting with regulatory agencies (DOH, TJC, CDC, etc.), peer hospital entities, and UW Medicine leadership

  • Integral member of committees overseeing safety, emergency management, patient care equipment, regulatory compliance, etc.

  • Schedules and reviews building system confidence testing to assure regulatory compliance

  • Reviews ECRI reports regarding equipment recalls and service bulletins, and assigns work accordingly REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field OR Equivalent experience

  • Four to Five years working in Medical Facility Plan Operations, at least three years as a manager or supervisor DESIRED

  • CHC – Certified Healthcare Constructor and/or CHFM – Certified Healthcare Facility Manager designation by AHA/ASHE UW Medicine includes Harborview Medical Center, UW Medical Center - Montlake, UW Medical Center - Northwest, Valley Medical Center, UW Neighborhood Clinics, UW Physicians, UW School of Medicine, and Airlift Northwest.
