The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology has an outstanding opportunity for an Anatomic Pathology Technician WORK SCHEDULE

  • Perform routine procedures for services such as Histology, IHC and special stain.

  • Work includes: processing, embedding, microtomy, H&E staining and special staining all types of tissue specimen received in the Histology Laboratory.

  • Perform routine frozen sectioning using a cryostat and simple immunohistochemistry procedures. REQUIRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

  • Certified, or certified within two years from the date of hire, at the Technician level by a nationally recognized certifying agency such as the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, the American Society of Clinical Laboratory Scientists or the Microscopy Society of AmericaOR

  • Equivalent education/experience PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Recycle Formalin and Xylene using our recycling equipment;

  • Perform nerve teasing as needed;

  • Perform special stains via auto stainer and manual staining protocols;

  • Use, care and maintain histology/ IHC instrumentations;

  • Adhere to quality control and quality assurance requirements and preform low to medium complexity research projects.

  • Perform quality control of specimens; assure accurate specimen labeling; and distribute to the pathologist responsible for reviewing the case.

  • Prepare laboratory reagents and unpack the supplies following the department policies and procedures.

  • Complete all instrument function verification, changing/rotating solutions, maintenance, and documents in accordance to lab procedures.

  • Ensure that equipment defects and malfunctions are reported to the supervisor.

  • Participate and comply with regulatory, safety compliance and follow the department PPE guideline.

  • Responsible for the cleaning of his/her microtome, filing his/her blocks and cleaning any soiled glassware at the end of the shift.

  • Able to work independently and with other team members.

  • Able to cover for staff shortage for early morning shift or late afternoon shift when needed with advance notice.

  • Assist the lab supervisor with filing, copying, scanning, data entry and other admin duties as needed.

  • Perform other related duties as required.
