Role Summary

The Director, Inflight Standards and Training leads the long-term strategy and financial performance for Inflight training programs including initial, recurrent and service training. This senior leadership role shapes and directs training development and delivery for regulatory and service-related training as well as Inflight leadership development programs. As a people leader, this senior leader manages and establishes priorities for a team of managers who is responsible for safety and training standards related to flight attendant qualifications. This position also oversees Inflight Policy and Procedure and Inflight Standards.

Key Duties

  • Direct and provide guidance to the P&P team who is responsible for the drafting of clear, concise, and thorough policies and procedures for flight attendants, ensuring safety and compliance in all aspects of policy and procedure communications.

  • Direct and establish safety, standards and consistency of flight attendants through training programs and the development of inflight leaders and instructors.

  • Lead team and establish priorities of development, delivery, assessment and regulatory standards of all Inflight training.

  • Responsible for all training programs and ensuring all programs meet regulatory requirements.

  • Ensures the ongoing audits of flight attendant instructors for compliance with all Code of Federal Regulations (CFRs) related to flight attendant training and regulatory standards and the development of such programs.

  • Responsible for the program standardization of administering assessment that meet the required level of proficiency in accordance to company and regulatory requirements.

  • Partner with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to obtain approval for new and revised training curriculum segments.

  • Drive Alaska Airlines Inflight to the leading edge of emerging training technologies and delivery methods.

  • Partner, and influence cross-divisionally with other training groups to evaluate, develop and execute on common training strategies.

  • Partners with the Association of Flight Attendants (AFA) to ensure compliance with company policies and contractual requirements.

  • Develop roadmap to transform AS Inflight training from N&O to AQP

  • Cultivate cross divisional relationships with Corporate Real Estate and Brand Marketing to deliver service standards that meet the needs of the operation and brand.

  • Develop people through effective performance management and ongoing feedback, focusing on fostering strategic and systems thinking across team and function, development of talent in function/discipline, and succession planning.

  • Shape culture of the team and beyond through action, presence, and reinforcement of behaviors.

Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills

Required

  • 8 years of aviation safety or training experience.

  • 5 years of leadership experience, with at least 2 of those years directly leading people. Preferably experience with oversight of multiple work groups.

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or an additional two years of experience in lieu of this degree.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).

  • Must successfully complete 5-6 weeks of Flight Attendant Training (if not already qualified as an AS Flight Attendant) and maintain certification as a Flight Attendant.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Minimum age of 21.

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Preferred

  • Demonstrated knowledge of 14CFR Part 121 air carrier operations, approved training programs and inflight operations.

  • Knowledge of appropriate FAA Advisory Circulars, applicable regulatory guidance and the flight attendant certification processes.

  • Experience interfacing with FAA Principal Operations Inspector (POIs) and Cabin Safety Inspector (CSIs)

  • Proven ability to lead and deliver cross-divisional projects on time and within budget.

  • Proven ability to influence operational outcomes, set strategy, and develop and monitor action plans to execute the strategy.

  • Demonstrated ability to leverage business acumen and analytic capability to negotiate win-win solutions across divisions.

  • Strong ability to rapidly understand and organize complexity, come up to speed quickly on the architecture and bring others along with change.

  • Ability to lead with passion, humility and fierce resolve and an ability to think and work beyond divisional boundaries.

  • Outstanding communication (e.g., verbal, written, presentation) and interpersonal skills, with the ability to create collaborative relationships that drive outcomes in the best interest of the company, with others in the organization, and with key external business partners.

Salary Range

$122,700 - $196,300 / year

Total Target Compensation Range (incl. bonus & equity)

$159,510 - $255,190

Salary Details

The pay range and total target compensation package listed above is the expected pay offered for this position at the start of employment. Your pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, your relevant experience/level, experience level, and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Horizon employees. Alaska/Horizon is committed to fair, unbiased compensation along with competitive benefits in all locations in which we operate.

Note: We don't typically hire at the top of the range.
