The Gino Merli Veterans' Center, one of six residential long-term care facilities operated by the Department of Military & Veterans Affairs, is seeking custodial staff for our Maintenance and Custodial Department.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK As a Custodial Worker 1, you will perform general and deep cleaning duties throughout the facility including resident rooms, nurse stations, offices and common areas. You will sweep, mop and wax floors; dust furniture, blinds, and light fixtures; clean windows, handrails, water fountains, and wheelchairs; clean and sanitize restrooms, empty trash and recycling, including infectious waste; and move furniture. Additionally, you will clear the sidewalks and the facility perimeter of debris, including snow.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week Work hours are second shift: 2:00pm- 10:00 pm, with rotating schedule and alternating weekends, and a 30-minute lunch. Preferred Qualifications (not required): Willingness to work in Scranton, PA Willingness to work a full-time, second shift position

Work experience as a custodian, janitor, or cleaning person in an assisted living facility, nursing home, or hospital is preferred. (Experience might include such things as cleaning restrooms; cleaning resident rooms, offices or public areas; mopping, scrubbing, dusting, sweeping, buffing, etc.) Experience interacting with residents or patients Experience disposing of infectious waste Experience shoveling snow Experience mixing solvents or chemicals Experience using manual and power equipment to maintain floors

Legal Requirements: A conditional offer of employment will require satisfactory completion of a medical examination. This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
