Your Responsibilities

  • Engage and influence Software Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices with software engineers, operations, and product management teams to align the delivery of technical solutions.

  • Manage availability, latency, scalability, and efficiency of jobs responsible for data collection and transformations.

  • Drive quality accountability within the organization with well-defined processes, metrics, and goals for process quality.

  • Lead effective postmortems and ensure actions are followed up.

  • Drive capacity planning, performance analysis, instrumentation, and other non-functional systems requirements.

  • Implement metrics-driven processes to ensure service quality targets are met.

  • Supports after-hour implementations to production and/or incident management.

    Your Experienc e, Skills & Competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science , or related STEM field, from a four-year college or university, or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience . Relevant industry certification is preferred .

  • 7+ years relevant experience in software development, information systems, or equivalent technical environment, including previous experience in the development of highly transactional, mission-critical applications in heterogeneous environments/architectures for multi-user systems.

  • Exceptional knowledge of all aspects of the software development lifecycle: design, functional and technical requirements, coding, debugging, testing, release, and operational support .

  • Exceptional knowledge of agile software development methodologies, Service Oriented Architecture, and object-oriented programming methodologies.

  • Exceptional analytical skills

  • Experience debugging distributed systems with high data loads.

  • Analytical mind with problem-solving aptitude

  • Exceptional knowledge of software development best practices, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes (e.g., continuous integration and continuous delivery), testing, and operations.

  • Exceptional knowledge of relational database management system technologies and tools.

  • Exceptional verbal, written, and listening communication skills.

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and demeanor.

    Proficiency with the following technologies:

  • Programming language Java ( 7 + years); version 1. 8 and beyond preferred , Python or similar

  • Relational databases (Oracle, SQL Server, etc.) required .

  • AWS technologies required , including S3 , Redshift , Athena etc

  • A irflow, Amazon AWMM

  • Unix/Linux and one of the many shells .

  • Spark , Hadoop, Kafka, Hiv e, and AWS EMR are required .

  • Web service technologies such as SOAP and REST

  • DevOps tools like Jenkins, Harness, etc.

  • Observability /Monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana , Splunk/Datadog)

  • SQL and RDBM systems

  • AWS (SQS , SNS, EC2) preferred.

  • Version control such as Git and code review type tools such as Stash

  • Continuous Integration/Delivery toolkits such as Jenkins/Puppet preferred.

    Your Team

    This is an individual contributor role that will report to the Manager, Software Engineering SRE . You will have 4 teammates and collaborate with cross-functional departments regularly.

    Your Work Location

    As our Sr Software Engineer , you will be based in our beautiful, s tate-of-the-art technology hub in Scottsdale, Arizona. In October 2021, Choice opened a newly constructed world class technology center.

    Right now, our associates in Scottsdale, AZ are working in a hybrid environment, up to four days per week in the office and working virtually the remaining days. We provide flexibility and encourage ongoing communication with your leadership to establish expectations about your unique needs.
