A.R. Mays Construction Director of Business Development in Scottsdale, Arizona

­­­­­­ ­­­­­­A.R. Mays Construction, one of Arizona’s largest locally owned commercial contracting companies, seeks a Director of Business Development to join our team in Scottsdale, AZ, and increase our market presence in Arizona. Our ideal candidate would have existing relationships in the Phoenix Metro A/E/C industry and be ambitious and motivated. The candidate would thrive in a fast-paced and self-directed work environment and have excellent client relationship-building skills. Responsibilities of the Director of Business Development (including but not limited to): • Aggressively drive and generate new project opportunities, prioritizing with the VP Business Development, preconstruction, and marketing • Target, qualify, and pursue leads in accordance with company strategy and techniques • Plan and perform sales calls, appointments, and site visits • Provides accurate weekly forecasting, including deal value, status, decision-makers, and steps to close • Communicate regularly with VP Business Development regarding market conditions or other pertinent conditions • Adept at negotiating sound business deals, as well as demonstrating excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills • Serve as the liaison between the client, preconstruction, marketing, and other departments • Attend company meetings, conferences, tradeshows, events, and industry programs to enhance company image • Develop a solid understanding of our portfolio, services, and prospects • Develop and execute strategies for obtaining new project opportunities • Assist in the preparation of requests for proposals (RFPs) Qualifications and Skills: • Bachelor's degree in business administration, marketing, finance, or related field; master's degree is advantageous • 8+ Years of previous experience and success in prospecting, qualifying, and closing new accounts in the A/E/C (architecture, engineering, construction) environment • OR - Relevant commercial brokerage experience with a solid client base • OR - Relevant construction project management experience with a solid client base • Exceptional relationship and communication skills • Proficient in Microsoft Office and CRM experience (Dynamics 365 a plus)­ • Must be a self-starter with a professional demeanor and strong work ethic • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and problem-solving capabilities • Motivated, driven personality with the ability to work autonomously to deliver results • Acts in a manner of integrity that shows support for the company, its values, and the employees while constantly focusing on meeting/exceeding customer requirements and expectations Working Conditions: • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, flexible and adaptable to changes to planned tasks or schedule • Capable of maintaining a positive attitude at all times and conducting oneself with integrity • Ability to work 40 hours per week or more if required • Willingness to travel and meet with prospective clients • Valid driver's license and proof of insurability required when job duties require use of a motor vehicle • Requires exercising discretion with decision-making and maintains strict confidentiality with respect to Company proprietary information This position may require minimal travel throughout the Southwest for meetings or conferences.
