About the Position: Serves as a Public Affairs Specialist developing command information, media relations and community relations for the Headquarters, Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command. Responsibilities Resolve congressional inquiries and analyze and recommend procedures to improve congressional special interest programs applicable to the Command. Work closely with the media and public affairs counterparts to coordinate coverage of SDDC operation and exercises in an effort to improve the public's understanding of SDDC's mission. Write scripts, scenarios and other narrative material for command events, briefings and exhibits which accurately and effectively portray command activities and accomplishments. Assist in developing, promoting, and implementing effective command information, media relations and community relations programs. Provides liaison with congressional offices and reviews actions, arranges action office responses, maintains and tracks suspenses. Provides input and updates to various websites to outline ongoing activities, trends, news and updates. Responsible for the social media websites maintained by the Command. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Producing communication material across a range of print, video, and electronic media while adhering to internal policies; 2) Performing comprehensive research to generate content; 3) Conducting interviews to gather information for publication; and 4) Advising management on public relations and public engagement matters. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Communication Counsel Communications and Media Interpersonal Skills Writing Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11). Education Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year probationary period may be required. Direct deposit of pay is required. Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees.
