Job Description Summary

GE Vernova Generator Stator, Structures & Packaging R&D Engineer role provides overall exposure and analytical as well as hands on product development experience in the four subsystems which are stator frame, armature, packaging, and Instrumentation & control hardware. Engineer will handle the R&D activities to support problem solving, product improvement, design & documentation and validation activities.

The Professional Engineer band is an individual contributor position. Engineer will collaborate with experienced engineers of various subsystems to support R&D activities related to turbogenerator stationary components listed above.

Projects involve problem solving, new design and/or improve existing design related to turbogenerator stator components using calculation methods (closed form solutions and Finite Element method) and/or component/subsystem testing and validation. Most of the projects require knowledge and integration of different subsystems. For example, improving the winding insulation to withstand higher voltages involve knowledge of insulation materials and electricity. Based on business need, this role would also support the design and development of turbogenerator stator, packaging, and control hardware related subsystems and components.

Knowledge and interest in Finite Element Analysis, CAD systems such as UG-NX, and Ansys/Workbench numerical tools would be of immense value. Engineer will interact with different labs of GE Vernova, Suppliers, Manufacturing, Sourcing, and Drafting.

There will be some travel per business needs.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Execute R&D activities - problem solving, analysis, design and testing - of assigned projects related to turbogenerator stator system using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements. This work involves mechanical, materials and/or electrical engineering principles.

  • Broadening and deepening knowledge of her/his own technical discipline to execute a world class design of GE-Vernova products and services.

  • Develop understanding of key business drivers and use this understanding to accomplish excellence. Good understanding of how work of own team integrates with other teams and contributes to our business.

  • May have some autonomy to make decisions within a defined framework. Resolves issues with good technical knowledge and engineering judgment within established procedures. Consult more senior team members for guidance outside of defined instructions/parameters.

  • Requires good interpersonal skills.

  • This role would also support the design and development of turbogenerator stator, packaging, and control hardware related subsystems and components as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited university or college.

  • Knowledge in Finite Element Analysis Principles.

  • R&D related experience in industry and/or university involving calculations and testing.

  • 1 year of work experience.

Desired Characteristics

  • Experience in Ansys/Workbench numerical tools and UG/NX CAD tools is a plus.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs.

  • Ability to use CAD tools (Ansys/Workbench, UG/NX or similar).

  • Basic understanding of solid mechanics, mechanical vibration, numerical methods such as finite element and/or finite difference.

  • Basic knowledge of thermodynamics, materials, and manufacturing processes, as well as instrumentation & control.

  • Familiarity with drafting standards and geometric design and tolerancing (GD&T).

For U.S. based candidates only, for purposes of complying with U.S. pay transparency requirements, the base pay range for this position is $79,400.00 - 119,000.00 USD Annual. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, geographic location, and skill set.

This position is also eligible for a 5% annual performance bonus. This position will stay open on the career website until at least 9/19/2024.

*The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%,120% or 130% of salary in certain areas.
