Toronto Veterinary Emergency Hospital is welcoming a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT ) to join our team of skilled veterinary professionals. While our network is large, we still offer that local community feeling, mentorship, and additional training!

• Have completed a Veterinary Technician or Animal Health Technician program.

• New graduates with knowledge of physical examinations, patient assessment, catheter placement, anesthesia monitoring, radiology, venipuncture, and pharmacy - welcome to apply!We love growing new graduates!

• Surgical preparation, assisting and patient recovery.

• Ability to keep detailed and accurate patient records.

• Compassionate care for our hospitalized patients and their pet parents

• Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.

• Ability to problem-solve or the ability to ask clarifying questions to help you find solutions.

• Exceptional interpersonal skills in working with your colleagues and pet parents.

Key Functions:

• Patient Care technician should regard all of the patients listed on the white board(s) as his/her patients (in cooperation with the technician for that clinician) and assumes responsibility for the in-hospital care of those patients

• Demonstrate a high knowledge level regarding the care and management of simple and complex surgery/medical cases

• Promote efficiency within the service

• Assist in other areas of the hospital as directed by supervisor

List of Duties

• Patient Care technician should regard all of the patients listed on the white board(s) as his/her patients in cooperation with the primary service technician & assumes responsibility for the in-hospital care of those patients, including but not limited to post-anesthesia care

• TPR animals prior to surgery

• Assist efficiency of flow of cases by catheter placement, bloodwork collection/processing, and radiographs

• Sample processing (histology, etc.), dispensation of medications

• Transfer patients downstairs at end of day and round to appropriate staff

• Help with patient discharges as needed

• Assist with anesthesia as needed

• Participate in drug count and drug stocking

• Help to maintain a clean and tidy workspace

• Work successfully both as a team member and independently and avoid behaviour that negatively affects morale
