New England Cancer Specialists (NECS) is seeking an experienced full time 40 hr./5-day Monday-Friday Medical Laboratory Technologist to join our amazing Laboratory team in our Scarborough, Maine Location.
The Laboratory Technologist is accountable for the performance of serological, biochemical, and hematological laboratory examinations and tests. They will provide technical and clerical support in all major areas of the laboratory while ensuring efficient operations and promoting patient-centered care. The successful candidate will have a bachelor’s in laboratory science as well as be able to collect samples and perform tests to analyze bodily fluids, tissue, and other substances. They will prepare specimens and perform manual tests that are based on detailed instructions. NECS Laboratory Technologists are an important part of the interdisciplinary team that cares for patients

Job Duties & Essential Functions
Able to accurately collect blood and other biological specimens for testing and possesses good technique to successfully perform venipuncture using a variety of techniques.
Perform waived to complex testing, quality controls. Review and track action as needed to ensure test accuracy, and report problems to Laboratory Manager.
Set up and operate, maintain, calibrate, clean, and test sterility of medical laboratory equipment.
Use automated equipment and computerized instruments capable of performing many tests at the same time
Operate laboratory information systems, log data from medical tests, and enter results into a patient’s medical record.
Discuss results and findings of laboratory tests and procedures with physicians
Train medical laboratory technicians as needed.
Obtains continuing education credit as required yearly.
Responsible for maintaining a clean working environment in the lab area according to established policies and procedures.
Successful performance of analyses on proficiency testing samples, demonstration of knowledge of principles, methods, materials, equipment, and techniques of laboratory medicine, and preparation of specimens for testing at reference laboratories.
Travel: Minimal
Weekend: Participation in the weekend clinic 1 weekend every 4-6 weeks. Weekend clinic is in our Scarborough ME, location.
Required Experience:
AS in Laboratory Sciences required, BS is preferred.
Successful completion of board entrance examination and licensing by a laboratory certifying agency (CAP, AMT, etc. )
Sound judgment and independent decision-making skills, and recognizes when to seek guidance and direction.
Organized and able to plan and prioritize workloads.
Able to perform mathematical calculations, collect data, and draw valid conclusions.
Collaborates with colleagues to work as a team with other departments at NECS.
Prompt and efficient with time
Strong computer skills
A willingness to learn new skills.
