Empire State University, Office of Human Resources, seeks an innovative and mission-driven Assistant Director of Talent Development. As the inaugural talent development leader, the incumbent will provide strategic direction and oversight to talent development programs and initiatives. In this influential role, the incumbent will develop, plan, and facilitate various supervisory and leadership development programs, oversee required regulatory compliance content, and refine a new hire orientation program. This position will also be able to coordinate various human resource engagement initiatives.

The Assistant Director of Talent Development will be committed to supporting employees' ongoing career development. Key Job Duties Include:

  • Collaborate and partner to assess and identify professional developmental needs and recommend, design, and implement effective learning solutions and content that reflect new approaches to meeting learning objectives and learning styles.

  • Administer and coordinate activities related to the planning, developing, and delivering educational programs, required compliance learning, new employee orientation/onboarding, technical training video creation, workshops, conferences, micro-learning, and various communications.

  • Partner with IT to promote LinkedIn Learning content at all university levels.

  • Influence talent development across the company for a broader impact on the University's Elevate '28 vision.

  • Promote an inclusive workplace that fosters the development of others, facilitates cooperation and teamwork, and supports engagement initiatives.

  • Use benchmarks and metrics to improve effectiveness and proactively analyze education programs supporting strategic business goals and required learning. Report findings quarterly and annually.

  • Deliver learning content through various platforms, including but not limited to in-person, virtual, and eLearning/videos/job aides.

  • Participate in the budgeting process and effectively manage educational costs.

  • Develop and support employee engagement initiatives, including organizational surveys and team-building activities.

  • Design adult-learner-focused onboarding, orientation, mentoring, and recognition programs that support the full employee lifecycle.

  • Partner with benefits to cross-promote a culture of well-being by supporting various wellness programs.

  • Create and execute strategic and tactical plans to deliver high-impact training that establishes a culture of career growth, pathways, and opportunities for all employees.

  • Prepare the workforce for operational excellence initiatives through change management, streamlining, and other organizational change concepts.

  • Deliver training programs professionally to diverse audiences, using industry best practices.

  • Create engaging materials, presentations, and resources for training programs.

  • Manage talent development logistics, including scheduling, participant tracking, materials production, collecting, and compiling participant evaluations.

  • Analyze existing resources and build relationships with subject matter experts and stakeholders across the University to develop institutional knowledge.

  • Continuously improve training materials and delivery methods based on industry best practices.

  • Set and meet deadlines for both independent work and collaborative projects.

  • Update the HR website with professional development activities.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

    Job Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university.

  • A minimum of five years' experience designing, coaching, teaching, and facilitating professional development using adult learning theories.

  • Prior experience in training/professional development programming.

  • Talent working with supervisors and coaching employees.

  • Experience producing actionable educational metrics.

  • Knowledge of competency-based training, adult learning theory, and/or action/experiential learning.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with diverse participants, including employees from various occupations and educational backgrounds.

  • Experience creating written job aids and video demonstrations.

  • Proactive and self-driven approach to project management.

  • Ability to present complex information effectively to diverse audiences.

  • Strong prioritization skills to meet deadlines.

  • Proficient in fostering relationships and collaborating effectively virtually and in-person.

  • Proficient in MS Office Suite.

  • Demonstrated strategic planning, implementation, and evaluation expertise and large-scale program implementation experience.

  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service and the ability to use talent development strategies to improve the university's overall programs and services.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build coalitions and collaborative working relationships with diverse individuals and groups, including senior leaders, to achieve results.

  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills, including communicating effectively with employees from all levels and backgrounds.

  • Ability to make timely decisions using sound judgment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree from a regionally accredited college or university.

  • HR, ATD, or similar certification.

Special Information:

  • This position is located in Saratoga Springs, NY.

  • Occasional travel to other SUNY Empire locations will be required.

  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

    Additional Information:

Rank/Salary: Management/Confidential / $65,000-$75,000, commensurate with experience, education, training, and certifications.
