Hanson Professional Services Inc. is seeking a candidate to fill a full time Aviation Designer position in the Florida Region .

Position Profile
Inception to completion project involvement, and a great mix of client-facing interaction and technical design and production defines the scope of this job. The position will be responsible for all elements of airside and landside airport engineering including, but not limited to, the design of pavements, drainage, security and wildlife fencing, and utilities; lighting and navigational aid design layout; and airport support structure and site development projects. Client assistance in capital improvement program (CIP) development and project visioning prior to the design phase will be an integral part in this role. Additionally, the candidate will routinely be tasked with construction phase administration of the associated projects where they will have the opportunity to witness first-hand the progress as each of the projects become reality.
The target candidate will offer 4-12 years of civil engineering experience within the aviation industry and be seeking an environment that offers both autonomous work circumstances balanced with the comradery of working as part of a team. This candidate will exhibit the personality and personal initiative to undertake tasks and interact with clients with modest guidance and possess the fortitude and demeanor to function effectively within a construction environment.
The ideal candidate will additionally have experience managing subordinate design staff across multiple offices in varying regions, be seeking an opportunity to elevate from team member to team leader, possess a practical project accounting knowledge and a verifiable ability to produce high-quality products within budget, and function equally effective in both client-facing and internal-facing circumstances.
Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities:
Attend and/or facilitate meetings with current and future airport clients. Partner with airport staff to develop effective capital improvement programs (CIP). Coordinate with the Federal Aviation Administration and the Florida Department of Transportation on behalf of our client. Perform design engineering duties including need assessments and justification, preparation of supporting calculations, authoring of engineering reports and technical documentation, and development and review of project bidding documents. Perform construction administration duties including shop drawing review, review of contractor payroll and pay applications, evaluating construction progress for compliance with contract documents, and the direction of testing and engineering support personnel and subconsultants. Coordinate and communicate field construction activities with client, contractor, and design team. Provide technical support to aviation planning team members as needed Mentor and offer technical guidance to design staff.
Qualifications
Education/Training:
A bachelor's degree in civil engineering with appropriate course work in the concentrations of transportation, airports, and/or construction.
A minimum of 4 years of civil design experience, preferably in the airport discipline.
At minimum, possess a Professional Engineer (PE) registration in the State of Florida, or the ability to obtain registration within 6 months from the date of initial employment.
Technical Skills:
AutoCAD/Civil 3D proficiencies.
Thorough knowledge of and the ability to apply Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Advisory Circular criteria, and other related FAA guidance.
Experience and the ability to practice productively in an airport environment/ aviation industry.
Familiarity with navigation on an airfield and common airport driving and safety protocols.
Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) project experience and familiarity with and an established professional network within the industry.
Soft Skills:
Effective written and oral communication skills are required, including being able to communicate complex technical concepts both visually and in text, to other engineers, clients, and public stakeholders.
Must be able to build productive relationships with internal and external client bases.
A history of effective teambuilding and leadership of project teams over a broad project range.
Must be able to work independently and as a team member to problem solve and learn new technical skills.
Ability and willingness to assist early-career staff in setting and achieving annual goals.
