PROVIDING CRITICAL SERVICES TO THE LOCAL COMMUNITY!
The City of Santa Rosa planning and Economic Development is seeking a professional engineer or architect to review commercial, industrial, residential, and multi-residential buildings and development plans to ensure that they are designed and constructed in accordance with applicable codes, ordinances and permit requirements.
A Plan Check Engineer position requires possession of a certificate of registration as a professional engineer or architect in the State of California. The position handles large, complex projects and checks structural engineering designs.

The selection process will include a minimum qualifications assessment, an application and supplemental questionnaire review, followed by departm nt selection interviews.
An eligibility list will be established as a result of this selection process and may be used to fill the current vacancy as well as any future vacancies.
Additional requirements, such as successful completion of a physical exam, drug screen, etc., may apply, depending on the duties and responsibilities of the position. Examples of Duties and Responsibilities
Plan Check Engineer:
- Conduct building plan checks; review structural and energy calculations, CALGreen requirements, fire resistive requirements, disabled access and conditions of approval
- Conduct field inspections of structures
- Confer with builders, engineers, contractors, architects and the public concerning building code and permit requirements
- Coordinate plan check activities with other City departments and with outside agencies
- Supervise technical and administrative support personnel
- Prepare written comments, reports and written correspondence
- Assist applicants in finding solutions to a variety of development application issues or refer them to other appropriate sources for help
- Use a computer for permit tracking, internet research, time management and communication
- May administerconstruction contracts

Knowledge of: Principles, methods and techniques of structural and civil engineering; basic legal requirements governing engineering and architecture; applicable adopted State laws and codes.
