The Role
The Staff Accountant role is a position that will fill a critical component in our Finance & Accounting team focused on development-stage solar farm accounting. This hands-on position provides many opportunities to develop your accounting and operational skills in a relatively flat department.
As a staff accountant, you will be responsible for assisting with various accounting and financial tasks to ensure the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of financial records and reports. You will report to the Manager of Development Accounting and work closely with the finance team and other departments to support day-to-day accounting. Opportunities to take on additional responsibilities within the accounting department are available given available time and success in the role.
Responsibilities
Work closely with HR to record payroll transactions
Responsible for updating and managing the Percentage of Completion (POC) revenue recognition workbook
Preparing journal entries, analyses, and account reconciliations and assisting with monthly and quarterly close processes
Maintaining schedules (i.e. fixed assets, AR aging, AP aging)
Use accounting software and systems to maintain financial records, generate reports, and streamline processes.
Develop knowledge of applicable accounting standards and future reporting, ensuring on-going compliance with relevant standards and legislative requirements
Monthly project level allocation for large overhead costs (i.e. labor allocation, bonus)
Record credit cards transactions
Review open POs and work with the operations team to close out stale POs
Assisting the Development manager and assistant controller as needed
Participate in process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and accuracy in financial operations.
Minimum Qualifications
BS in Accounting (or related major)
1-2 years of experience in an accounting role. A mix of public and private accounting experience is a plus.
Proficient excel capabilities and ability to analyze large excel-based data sets
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) required including vlookups, pivot tables, and other common formulas
General computer and financial systems competency. Ability to learn new software quickly.
Skills/Abilities
Solid understanding of basic accounting principles including ability to create journal entries and associated supporting documents
Intermediate knowledge of Excel and Netsuite experience a plus
Must be inquisitive, have the desire to learn and initiative to reach out to various departments to complete tasks
Organized, resourceful and pays attention to detail
Must be a self-starter who handles multiple projects with competing priorities with minimal supervision
Needs to be a team player who does well with daily ad-hoc requests
Experience in the following industries is a plus: energy, real estate, and/or construction
Ability to identify problems and discrepancies, independently perform research and analysis of causes, and recommend corrective actions.

Compensation: The salary range for the position is $60,000-$80,000 plus bonus and benefits. Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location.
