Amazon's Global Logistics (GL) Product team is seeking an experienced Senior Data Engineer to lead the design, implementation, and delivery of large-scale data solutions. This high-impact role will drive the organization's vision for core data pipelines, transitioning from manual approaches to more robust and scalable CDK-based solutions. Additionally, the role will focus on scaling our Data Engineering solutions for Self-Serve Analysis and Self-Service Dashboards to a growing customer base.

Key job responsibilities

  • Design and implement robust and scalable data pipelines to ingest, transform, and load data from various production sources into our data lake and warehouse.

  • Scale self-service tools to the broader organization.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally to identify strategic opportunities where improvements in data infrastructure and analytics can have outsized business impact.

  • Mentor and lead other data engineers, driving best practices in data engineering and operational excellence.

  • Stay up-to-date with the latest data technologies and architectures, and proactively recommend innovations to enhance our data capabilities.

A day in the life

As a Senior Data Engineer at Amazon's Global Logistics Product team, your day will involve collaborating with cross-functional teams to understand their data needs and translate them into robust data pipelines and solutions. You'll work on transitioning our core pipelines from manual approaches to more scalable CDK-based solutions, ensuring data quality and reliability. Additionally, you'll focus on scaling our Self-Serve Analysis and Self-Service Dashboards to meet the growing demands of our customer base. Throughout the day, you'll mentor and guide other data engineers, sharing best practices and driving operational excellence within the team.

The Global Logistics (GL) Product team at Amazon aims to offer best-in-class global transportation capabilities for FBA Sellers and Retail Vendors to ship from their locations to Amazon warehouses worldwide. We enable our shippers with transportation solutions that range in size and scale, from shipping a single carton to pallets, trucks, trains, and ocean freight. Our vision is to simplify complex global supply chains, replenish inventories faster, and ultimately improve selection and availability for Amazon's consumers while lowering the cost structure for Amazon and our shippers.

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of data engineering experience

  • Experience with data modeling, warehousing and building ETL pipelines

  • Experience with SQL

  • Experience in at least one modern scripting or programming language, such as Python, Java, Scala, or NodeJS

  • Experience mentoring team members on best practices

  • Experience communicating with users, other technical teams, and management to collect requirements, describe data modeling decisions and data engineering strategy

  • Experience building data products incrementally and integrating and managing data sets from multiple sources

  • Experience with AWS Tools (CDK, Maestro, Glue, Lambda, S3, SNS, IAM Roles, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications

  • 7+ years of data engineering, database engineering, business intelligence or business analytics experience

  • Master's degree in computer science, engineering, analytics, mathematics, statistics, IT or equivalent

  • Experience operating large data warehouses

  • Knowledge of professional software engineering & best practices for full software development life cycle, including coding standards, software architectures, code reviews, source control management, continuous deployments, testing, and operational excellence

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $139,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $240,500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
